1972 BMW 2002 tii Coupe

Blue w/Black interior 2.0 liter/140hp, 4-spd manual transmission. The 2002 series is a very significant piece in the history of BMW for a number reasons, not the least of which is it brought the company out of near bankruptcy in the 1950s and put BMW as a marque on the map in the United States. It's kin to the 3 series and was produced from '68 to '76. The car's "creator" was legendary German BMW importer Max Hoffman. It was his idea to place the 2.0L engine between the front fenders... of the 1600-2 for greater performance, as well as emissions. Although the idea was met with feedback from the boys in BMW engineering who thought the engine wouldn't fit. But Hoffman was adamant it would . . . and it did. The car was an instant hit in its first year on the market and continued to be throughout its 8-year run. It's considered a classic today and one of the most desirable BMW's in its history. This beautiful, rust-free example is in excellent condition throughout with great cosmetics. Although the car spent some time on the East Coast, its origins seem to point west the CA. then south to South Carolina. It's had one repaint. The original color was Baikal Blue, which was a light metallic Blue. The color it was painted is more of a medium Blue and complements the car perfectly! The interior is very original with the exception of carpeting, headliner and some other misc items like the steering wheel (from a 3 series). The Blaupunkt radio is still there and works! It's been mechanically sorted and runs really well! The fuel system, including injection, has been gone through. All the rubber lines have been replaced and the gas tank cleaned out. The cooling system has been gone through and features a newer radiator, water pump, thermostat, and hoses. The steering has been rebuilt and it tracks arrow straight. The front brake calipers have been updated. It has factory a-c and the system has been rebuilt and features an updated compressor. The '72 tii's are considered by experts as the most collectible year! Don't miss your opportunity!
