Description:
1994 BMW 8-Series 850csi
The BMW 850csi is BMW's flagship example of the 1990's. With only 225 imported to North America originally, over the years that number has dwindled to about only 200 left on the road. A car truly ahead of it's time in every aspect. Those looking at this car more than likely know the ins and outs of it's automotive history so I won't bore you with all of the usual performance information. What I will say is this car is one of the finest examples of speed and luxury I have ever had the chance to own. I love this car but it's time to let go and let someone else experience the exhilaration of owning it. I've owned it for 10 years purchased in 2007 from Park Place Ltd. one of the west coast's largest luxury, sports and exotic car dealerships in Bellevue, Wa. I bought the car as the third owner with 67,354 miles on the clock and in my over 10 years of ownership have placed approximately 25+K miles on it for an average of less than 3k miles a year. It came equipped with the current staggered 18" wheel setup with M Par's when purchased. As any 23 year old car that's been driven the paint has a few chips and scratches as well as a spot of oxidation over the driver's headlight so it could use a respray but no major dents of any kind. Also, one small (eraser tip size) of rust on the sunroof is beginning to emerge. I've done my best to keep the car in good shape and have been extremely lucky to not have had any major repair catastrophes to deal with. I'll outline a bit later the few repairs that have been required during my ownership.
I've also been blessed that I made a friend of a retired BMW master mechanic who had extensive experience dealing with the 850 and either performed or assisted me in virtually every repair.
Biggest issue to date was in the console the brackets that supported the heating/air unit broke (being made of plastic it was just a matter of time as to when age and heat would take its effect) which ordinarily wouldn't be a major issue but because of the wood-grain in the CSI it has been a nightmare. As a result I've ordered three consoles (from two different sources) after sourcing the item number from RealOEM and each time I've gotten the wrong one for the CSI. It is apparent the only way to get the correct one is by finding a wrecked CSI and parting it from there. In any case that's why there is no wood-grain on the console. However, I do still have the wood-grain which will be included with the car.
Also, I am a member (albeit mostly non active lately) of Bimmerforums a community of some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable E31 owners anywhere to be found on this earth. There is nothing this group won't do for anyone interested in the E31. When I bought my car one of the foundational members reached out and offered to drive the car across the country to me and provide a written report for just expenses and a plane ticket home. Wuffer, your kindness will never be forgotten. The car is also registered in the BMW M Registry. But, enough banter, let me tell you what repairs were done and what it needs as I know it.
