Description:

1991 BMW 5-Series 535i

I'm moving back to the midwest, where snow abounds, and RWD cars don't do so well. I've also been advised that towing a U-Haul trailer with my "classic" car wouldn't be the best idea, so it's time to say goodbye. I bought this car about 9 years ago from a mechanic who took great care of it. His wife was driving it when it was rear-ended. I bought it and had it repaired, though the trunk does leak. Here are the many things I've had done for the car. I have most of the service records, and the same shop has taken care of most its needs, so you can speak with them about the car as well.
Within the last 2 years:
New muffler and ceter pipes
New ignition wires
New headlights and light assemblies
New windshield
New washer nozzles
Complete tune-up
Rebuilt top-engine: new cylinder head gasket, adjust valves
New Thermostat
New Control arms w/brushings, Pitman arm
New A/C compressor and drier
New radiator
New battery
New paint (Maaco, and not the cheap option. $1600. Has a topcoat and part of the car was sanded down to the metal before it was painted.) However, someone keyed the passenger side--not too bad, though.
Have also replaced the alternator, water pump, front and rear brakes, struts, ACC Mono Valve, and most hoses and belts.
Tires were replaced 2 months ago.
Car has 227,800 miles on it and drives tight. There are some dings that I've photographed. I didn't take any pics of the interior because I didn't have time to vacuum. The interior is in "ok" shape. The fabric on the roof is just starting to loosen, and the weather-stripping around the inside of the doors is pretty well shot, as you'd probably expect on a car this old.
There are some quirks and some things that you might decide to repair or not:
*Trunk leaks
*Passenger door lock has to be "pushed down" to make sure it locks. Otherwise, power locks are fine.
*Some of the dashboard lights are out: The odometer (you can see it in the right light, though) and the left turn signal. It's $150 to have the dash taken apart to put in the bulbs, so I said no thanks.
*The computer no longer works, except for the mileage, i.e. how many more miles you can drive before you run out of gas. The temperature outside is apparently always -35.
*The heater fan vibrates (not the fan, specifically the heater).
*The power seat on the driver side is temperamental. It easily moves forward; it is quirky about moving back. The motor is probably going out. I'm the only driver, so I decided not to spend the $150 I was quoted for a new motor.
*The cruise control does not work. It isn't the fuse; that's all I know.
*The "bar" to hold the hood up is missing.
There is a AM/FM Panasonic CD Player with input jack. The heated seats WORK. Yes!
