This fine rust free California owned E9 received an extensive cosmetic and mechanical restoration at a renowned BMW restorer in La Jolla California, in 2009. A full disassembly and repaint was expertly done in Glasurit Fjord Blue, the car's original color. At that same time, many performance and convenience upgrades were undertaken, including the installation of a 3.5-liter engine with Motronic 1.3 fuel injection, a BMW 265 five-speed transmission, a limited slip differential, stainless steel exhaust system, and a major suspension rebuild. The suspension was rebuilt with Carl Nelson lowering springs, Ireland Engineering sway bars, new control arms, and new Bilstein shock absorbers. This fabulous coupe also includes a complete and excellent condition trunk-lid toolkit with the elusive Red-Handled screwdrivers.
Other significant improvements were done to the car, including the Euro bumper conversion, an expensive retrofit that dramatically improves the aesthetics of the car. An extensive soundproofing of the entire interior using DynaPad and DynaMat. The air conditioning was upgraded and converted to R-134a refrigerant. A Miller War Chip and MAF were installed, as were new halogen headlights, new starter, new hi-amp alternator, and a rebuilt steering box. Further upgrades include an Alpina steering wheel, a period-correct Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo extensively modified with 700watts and 7 speakers and iPhone/iPad operation, and a stealth-installed Passport Qi45 Radar detector. The tan leather interior and all woodwork were also restored, and an original NLA German carpet was installed. The 16" staggered Alpina wheels are authentic, and carry Michelin Pilot 225/50R16 blackwall radial tires.
The BMW 3.0CS, model E9 in factory nomenclature, is a favorite amongst BMW faithful and it's not hard to see why. It is absolutely gorgeous, an elegant design by Wilhelm Hoffmeister that's been revered since its inception and is considered among the most beautiful cars ever crafted. The character of this car emanates from its legendary and sonorous straight-six engine, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The ample power is tamed by independent front and rear suspensions with power assisted disc brakes at every corner.
