Description:
1960 Austin Healey Sprite Bugeye
The life story of me (born in 1960) and bugeys...I was about 5 years old when my dad started to rebuild "Bugeyes". As kid's dream of having my own, I saved my money, bought my first car...Karmann Giana. I restored it and sold it so that I could get this car. That was in 1978 (37 yrs ago). I worked all summer restoring it. This was my main car till 1991. In 1999 I had a master mechanic rebuild an Austin Healey Mark IIII 1275cc Engine to put in it. In 2001, did a partial rebuild on the car and then stored it in the garage with cover. The reason for getting rid of it is to simplify the things around me. I'm trying to get my business going and need the room in my garage. I thought of putting it in storage but that wouldn't be fair...it needs to be loved and driven...take a look at the videos. I would love to see someone get the same enjoyment that I have for all these years. The car's details…Year: MO registered as 1960Title: MO, cleanMileage: (actual miles unknown) Odometer stop running years agoColor: Red with White Racing StripeEngine: 1275 cc, In 1999, I bought an Austin Healey Mark IIII, 1275 high compression engine. I had my good friend, a master mechanic, rebuild it from the ground up with a mild cam, hardened lifter & seats, Weber down draft carburetor, and Malley dual points racing distributor. I kept the original 948 cc engine that came with it. This engine and all the parts goes with the car! Chassis #: VIN AN5L/39235 Paint: In 2001, my wife and I did a partial restoration. We put in more steel for re-enforcement and body putty by the finder wells and various places. Some blemishes here and there, but the car presents well. See the photos. All the blemishes are fixable without need to repaint from what I have been told. I have a small can for touch ups that matches the paint perfectly. Rust: MO car so there are some small places that have rust but it has been stored in the garage and we only drove it 1-2 times a year in the summer.Oil: Like most British cars (and Harleys), this car drips a slightly amount of oil after heating up and driving at the front and back. Nothing at all to be concerned about, simply a reflection of the primate British sealing technology at the time. Electrical: 12V, negative groundTranny: Tranny shifts well for an old British tranny. First gear is non-syncro and growls a bit. Third gear has a tight gate. Replaced the tranny when I put the 1275 engine in. Due to the inconvenience of replacing a clutch, I fabricated panels to allow replacement of the clutch w/out pulling the engine.Starting: Car starts right up with choke when cold. Once warm, no choke necessary to restart.Tires & rimsSpoke Wheels with knock-offsTube Sport TiresUnder the bonnetAustin Healey Mark IIII High Compression Engine. Also, I put more steel in and there is some body putty by the finder wells and various places.Extra Original Engine: 948ccI have the tranny that goes with this engineAll the parts that I took off to upgade.Extra Parts:2 Extra complete tire and spoke wheelsAnother spoke wheel (w/o tire)AxlesAir Filter (new)AlternatorMuch, Much more...YouTube Videos (copy the address and paste onto the YouTube website):Qqi0pquP57Q0beiDPxxP2EbC9L2n0QNZcQwlEC9rX7BYoSp69uIfzzMQ_ba_oHH7qUThis car is not perfect, it is a driver.
