1963 Austin Healey Sprite Mark II Roadster
West Coast Classics presents the ultimate Austin Healey Sprite Mark II! An extraordinary opportunity to own this wonderful AACA Award winning example and a simply exquisite daily driving and rust free example of this reportedly original 69K miles and beautifully restored 1963 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk II Roadster!Recently acquired from it's most recent Arizona owner and obviously always garaged and rarely driven since being fully restored! The car has always been historically rust free and has been correctly repainted in it's original 'Cardinal Red' paint with a Black interior with White piping. The car has the 1098 cc CM3 4 cylinder engine with 56HP and dual SU carburetors. The car boasts a new black soft top with bows and side curtains and a full weather tonneau cover. The car has it's stock wheels mounted on new radial tires. All the chrome and stainless has also been restored. The car has a beautifully detailed trunk and engine bay.
The Healey family's follow up to the successful collaboration with BMC on the Healey 100 was the Austin-Healey Sprite beginning in 1958. This new low priced sports car featured unitized steel construction on tiny overall dimensions and although there have been other small and some faster sports cars, few have proved so endearing. The original plan to give the Sprite hidden headlamps was abandoned for cost reasons which resulted in fixed lamps that gave the round end a quaintly cute "frog eye" appearance. The entire front sheet metal section, including the fenders, was hinged at the front, and lifted up for superb engine access. There was no trunk and only very modest storage space behind the front seats. Nevertheless handling was 'sprightly' and fuel economy, obviously, great!
Assembled at MG's Abingdon factory may explain why in 1961 the newly restyled Sprite Mark II was to resemble the MG Midget so closely. The Sprite II proved enormously popular with a most respectable top speed of over 84mph and when hotted up could easily top 100mph along with a trunk! These mechanically simple cars are full of character, very economical to run with parts easily and affordably available and very easy to work on and extremely fun to drive with BMC's proven and rugged and durable A-series four cylinder engine that had been around since the war, so whats not to like?
As stated earlier, this is a rare opportunity to own a fully restored AACA award winning 1963 Austin-Healey Sprite Mark II which is obviously the perfect car for the Austin-Healey collector or enthusiast looking for the best Mark II Sprite available or simply a perfect daily driver for any British sports car enthusiast or collector!
