1967 Austin Healey 3000 MK III

The Austin-Healey 3000 is a British sports car built from 1959 to 1967. It is the best known as the "big Healey" model. The car's bodywork was made by Jensen Motors and the vehicles were assembled at BMC's MG Works in Abingdon, alongside the corporation's MG models. During its production life, the car transitioned from an open sports car, albeit with a child-transporting 2+2 option, to a sports convertible. In 1963, 91.5 percent of all Austin-Healey 3000 cars were exported; mostly to North America. The 3-litre 3000 was a highly successful car, which won its class in many European rallies in its heyday and is still raced in classic car competitions by enthusiasts today.

As the writer for Classic Auto Mall I have the pleasure of driving most cars. With a perchance for British sports cars, of course I had to hop into this one!! I'll say it is a car that brings a smile to your face as you go through the gears, has a great sound to it, and has plenty of pep. Not a perfect concours car, but it has a nice old school feel to it. Overall a really nice British Sports Car with patina, and class. Read on further for much more information, and you'll fall in love.

Exterior
With a few chips in the original cream paint, (right front headlight, right door) the paint has held up well. At the front of the long bonnet, we see a smiling grille in very nice condition. This is flanked by a headlight on either side, and chrome bezels are presenting nicely. Same story with the hood scoop cover, dual turn signal/parking lighting and bumper. Making our way back straight rust-free steel panels are there, a few inconsistencies in the gaps particularly at the doors, but nothing terrible. The convertible top is in nice condition with the rear window showing a bit of discoloration. Action of the top is smooth. On the rear trunk area is a chrome luggage rack, and the rounded fenders which make their way done to the rear bumper and sporting stacked dual taillights/turn signals. Original spoke wheels with knockoff hubs are seen on all 4 corners.

Interior
A swing of the door, and you'll notice a driver's door panel that shows wear, and is loose, with a tear near the lower pocket. Some tape repair has been done on the inside sill. 2 buckets with stitching and cream piping make up the compartment, and these show in good condition with a nice wear. Center bump carpet seems a little faded and worn, with a gearshift that has a new boot. 2 small pattern matching jump seats are in the rear of this compartment, and a small space behind them houses the convertible top when in its down position. A nice wood burl dash houses Smiths gauges which are showing in fair condition, with corrosion on the out of line bezels, and the glue smudging on the gauge glass. Knobs are original, and some wear on the wood on the shifter knob can be seen. The upper padded part of the dash in black vinyl shows no creaks, and a rear-view mirror perches atop it in the center.

Drivetrain
An original inline 6-cylinder engine sits in a clean unrestored engine bay. This is backed up by a 4 speed manual transmission.

Undercarriage
Slight surface rust can be seen, and an area of the frame has undergone a well-done repair. Rustproofing is seen sprayed on. Rockers are in good shape, and trunk is nice with an airbrushed tire cover, and a rear mounted battery. Front disc, and rear drum brakes are noted.

This wonderful car could be easily classified as a driver, as it is mechanically sound, and looks nice. The car is correct, with some areas needing attention to make it perfect. Btu in life how many things actually are? Come by Classic Auto Mall and give this Healey a spin, and you will have a smile on your face when you return!
