MotoeXotica Classic Cars is pleased to present this classic English sports car, a 1963 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II Convertible 2+2 (BJ7) that we are selling for a local client of ours.
Jensen Motors made the car’s body while Austin-Healey made the cars in Abingdon, England. Only 6,113 examples of the BJ7 models were made. Under its bonnet is a 2.9L straight six-cylinder engine with a pair of SU HS6 carburetors hooked to a four-speed manual transmission. It also has Girling front disc brakes. Other changes included a vertical barred front grille, wind-up windows instead of side curtains, an improved hood, and a wrap-around windscreen. Optional extras were similar to the Mark I, although the factory hardtop option was dropped with the BJ7's introduction. From August 1961, a brake servo was also available as an optional extra, which greatly improved braking performance. The BJ7 was discontinued in October 1963 with the introduction of the 3000 Mark III.
Dressed in it's correct Colorado Red exterior, the paint and trim are in overall very good order but please note a 3" chip on the paint on the right front hood near the headlight. The glass panels are in very good order as are the car’s lights. The car rolls on Sprint Classic radials, sized 185/70HR15 surrounding knock-off Borrani wire wheels with spinner center caps. This roadster’s body panels are solid and straight, including the folding top, which is in very good order and has a plastic rear window. The bumpers are in very good order, while the boot, under-bonnet area and battery are all in good shape.
Inside, the black bucket seats are in very good order, the matching carpet is in good order and the black instrument panel is in very fine shape and has a bonus underneath, a heat booster. The three-spoke steering wheel, door panels, mirror glass and center console are all in fine shape. The gear shifter is in very good order. This is a radio delete model.
Competition to this Austin in 1963 included Alfa Romeo’s Giulia Spider Veloce Lancia’s Flaminia Cabriolet 3c 2.8 Touring and Mercedes-Benz’s 230SL convertible.
