This 1974 Auburn is a second generation Boattail Speedster built by the Auburn Cord Duesenberg company in 1974 as a re-creation of the 1936 Auburn Boattail Speedster. The original Auburn Automobile Company closed its doors in 1937, with the balance of the factory parts and inventory sold to Mr. Dallas Winslow where he continued to sell Auburn parts to restorers and enthusiasts keeping these wonderful cars on the road. In 1960, Glenn Pray, an Oklahoma school teacher and longtime Auburn & Cord restorer, purchased the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Co. from Mr. Winslow and moved all the remaining inventory to Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

In 1966 Glenn Pray began reproducing high-quality second generation Auburn Boattail 852 Speedsters (known now as a Glen Pray 866 Auburn Boattail Speedsters) using an authentic, original Boattail body as his basis, with molds generated to exacting standards. Ford Motor Company supplied the convertible chassis, as well as the big block engine, transmission, and rear axle assembly. Pray's original 1966 Auburn prototype was tested for nearly 40,000 miles while being shown throughout 1967. They were offered for public sale in 1968 and continued to be built for collectors thru 1981, using the Ford chassis/driveline and original 1935/1936 trim parts. Today, Glenn Pray Auburn 866 Speedsters are well-respected as being some of the finest Second Generation examples and welcomed in the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Club tours and club events.

This 1974 Auburn 866 Boattail Speedster by Glenn Pray is #49 of the ~130 that he produced. Finished in "Ferari" Red over a Black Leather interior, with a subtle gold body pinstripe. Options include a 460ci-4bbl V8 engine, C6 automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, 14” chrome wire spoke wheels with Auburn center caps, Toyo steel belted radial wide whitewall tires, tilt steering column, dual outside steerable spotting lights, LED headlamps, large original driving lamps, a convertible top with side screens, and a cabin tonneau cover. The dual exhaust ports from each side of the engine are functional like the original supercharged models of the 1930's, along with a locking golf bag side door! A full size spare tire hides behind the front passenger compartment. The clock and all gauges work, and while the speedometer and trip mileage counter work, the odometer does not. Hence, true mileage is unknown.

Recent service on this Auburn includes new front and rear shocks, a new fan blade and fan blade clutch, a new starter, all suspension and steering points greased, an oil and filter change, and installation of LED headlights and taillights.
