It was originally delivered on March 29, 1966 to a... French gentleman, however after only 811 km’s, the DB6 was returned to the Aston Martin Works at Newport Pagnell. The DB6 was then sold on 4 December 1966, through a California based broker with a Warranty as a new car to Mr. and Mrs. W. Duke of Los Angeles. At this time, the car was prepared for her new owner in the USA with distinct specification changes carried out. The original Vantage engine was replaced with a standard 4.0 liter engine with triple SU carburetor (standard specification, rather than Vantage), the KPH speedometer was swapped with a new Smiths unit in MPH and the French lighting was changed to U.S. specification and the DB6 was prepared for shipment to the USA. This DB6’s options included Chrome wire wheels, Normalair air conditioning, Heated rear window, Fiamm electric air horns, Bosch Köln radio with electric antenna, Front and rear mounted Britax safety belts and Marchal fog lamps; as indicated in the accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate and Aston Martin factory build sheet. During the next 47 years, the DB6 would serve as Mrs. Duke's favorite weekend touring companion, accruing light mileage and excellent service until the Duke family decided to finally sell in 2014. The subsequent owner of the DB6, was piqued by the rich history of this example and decided to undergo a detailed and sympathetic restoration with well-known California based Aston specialist, Kevin Kay Restorations. Per the original build sheet, the engine was rebuilt and converted back to Vantage specification and at this time the automatic transmission was replaced with a Tremec 5-speed gearbox. All bright work was restored to as new condition and the interior was restored in stunning Blue leather hides with matching the lustrous Blue Wilton wool carpeting. The paintwork is believed to be mostly original was completely wet sanded and polished. Additionally, the DB6 received new tires, brakes, suspension, stainless steel exhaust system, new wiring harness, and a host of details, bringing the car to a standard of concours quality and at a cost of nearly $170,000. This DB6 includes a large file of ownership documents and receipts including its original factory build sheet, a British Motor Industry Trust Heritage Certificate, repair manuals, instruction books, original key and key fob sets, as well as the original tool roll and jack. This DB6 exhibits a unique history, is a delight to drive and has been well sorted for immediate Concours and touring use. They are not often found with such low original mileage and in such exceptional condition.
