1968 AMC Rambler American 440 440

1968 AMC RAMBLER AMERICAN 440 STATION WAGON
This is arguably the coolest Rambler Station Wagon on the planet (it gets more attention than my 63 Vette, or my 39 Olds).
The car was originally purchased in May of 1967.
The car was sold to the third owner in June of 2002 and at that time it was still was equipped with the original 232CI, 3 speed transmission and A/C with just under 34K miles.
I purchased the car from the third owner at the Mecum Auction in Dallas in September of 2013.
  • When I purchased the car it had the original drive train with just over 40,000 miles.
  • The entire car is straight, solid and rust free.
  • It had a professional repaint in 2003 in the original colors.
  • The interior is original, with the exception of new carpet and new center fabric in the seats.
  • The previous owner had added an Offenhauser intake and a Holly 390cfm 4 Barrel.
The eye catching little wagon looked really cool . . . but we decided to take it to the next level and make it run as good as it looked, so we sent it to the restoration shop for some special additions.
  • The original engine and transmission were replaced with a 350CI Chevrolet Small Block and a Turbo 400 Transmission.
  • A HEI distributor, Edelbrock intake manifold, quick fuel carburetor, fuel pump and new starter motor were added.
  • A front runner serpentine system was added.
  • Rack rack and pinion steering was added.
  • The front brakes were converted from drums to calipers.
  • A new brake master cylinder was added.
  • A Holley Avenger Throttle Body Injection system was installed.
  • The AC, heater and fuel lines were replaced with braided steel lines.
  • The engine compartment wiring was rerouted to clean-up engine compartment.
  • A Flaming River Tilt Steering Column was installed.
  • The instrument cluster was upgraded to analog style digital gauges.
The end result ... it drives like a new car, it stops like a new car and it goes like you would expect a 2800 lb car with a 350ci V8 to go.
  • The sale includes all of the restoration receipts ($38,785), the Mecum Bill-of-Sale ($21,935), the original owner invoice, the original owner protective maintenance book, the original window sticker and the original dealer order.
  • The car is sold with a clean texas title in my name.
  • This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION, once an opening bid is made, the car will be sold.
  • If you do not have any feedback, contact me before you bid, or your bid will be cancelled.
  • The Car is sold AS-IS and WHERE-IS, all shipping costs and shipping arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer.
