Description:
1970 AMC AMX Go Pack
I recently retired and have decided to sell off some of my vintage car collection. Please check out my ebay listings of other cars currently for sale. For sale is a frame off rotisserie restored AMX that I've owned for over 21 years now. This is about the best original restored 1970 AMX you will ever see! The attention to detail and dedication to originality was the done to the highest standard in the AMC world. It has the striking color combo of Frost White w/Red vinyl factory stripe and Red Leather bucket seat interior. This is an original Factory Go-Pack car which included the functional Ram Air set up, power 4 piston disc brakes and the locking differential.
This car is all original with the original factory "born with" 390 Ram Air engine, Borg Warner automatic transmission and the AMC posi-traction 3:15 rear end. The engine was rebuilt by Larry King of King's Speed Shop in Greensboro, NC. Transmission and differential was rebuilt by Modern Service in Cary, NC. The original carburetor was restored by Jon Hargrove aka "The Carb Doctor". All body restoration & paint work was professionally done by TCR Custom in Sanford, NC. The car runs excellent and has virtually no miles since being restored.
I purchased this car as a barn find in 1996 with 58,699 original miles (current mileage) and it had been in storage for a long time. I had always loved the AMX 2 seat muscle cars and this was a perfect car to restore as it was a complete original running car with minimal rust. The body was acid dipped to remove all of the old paint and rust of which the rust was very minor. The body panels such as quarter panels doors, hood and one fender are the original to the car. One fender was replaced from a fender bender early in it's life. All components were rebuilt & restored to factory specs. The body and paint work are show quality. All chrome is in excellent condition with the majority of the pieces being re-chromed. The undercarriage is painted body color just as it was when it left the factory in Kenosha, WI. The finish on the bottom side of the floorboards looks better than most car's paint job on the top side. All metal brake & fuel lines were replaced with stainless steel lines. The front brake caliper bores have been sleeved with stainless steel. There are many items too numerous to list such as the NOS AMC air and oil filters on the car. 4 new correct Goodyear Polyglas F-70 14 White letter tires are mounted on the original Magnum 500 wheels.
The seat covers are still the original leather ones from 1970 showing very minor wear on the drivers side bolster. The carpeting is a new factory wool style set from that era. The factory "rim blow" wood steering wheel was restored and still looks brand new. Overall the interior is excellent but has a few flaws.....remember this is the original interior you're looking at!
After completion I took the AMX to it's first show, the 2014 AMO International Convention in Charleston, SC where it was a National Concourse winner taking both Senior Gold and Junior Gold in the AMX stock class. Later the judges commented to me that this was probably the best restoration on an AMX they had ever seen.
Please look closely at the pictures and you will see & appreciate the level that this AMX was restored to. You could not build this car for the price so if you have been seriously looking for an AMX Go Pack car built to museum quality specs your search is over.
