1972 AMC Javelin AMX, rare Z code 401, solid, triple black. Restoraion started
1972 AMC AMX
Up for sale is my 1972 Javelin AMX.This will be the only time I list thecar in this condition. If I don't get what I am looking for, he restoration will continue to completion. This is true AMX and nota clone. In my opinion, he most desirable color combination for the 71-74 AMX Javelins. It was born a triple black car meaning black exterior, lack vinyl top, nd black interior. It is a high option Go Packcarthat included AC, S,727 auto, M/FM, ilt wheel and electric rear window defroster.
I purchased thecar here locally about2 years agoand itwas originally from California where it spent most of it's life. It is a very solid car with just a few issues to address before paint. The biggest being in the trunk area where it appearsto be a victim ofthe stupid 70's notion that a muscle car must haveair shocks!Theother areas needing attentionare the trunk floor (3 very minor spots less than a square inch) and passenger side trunk drip/drain channel. All are pictured. Iam including more than enough original rust free sheet metal from donor cars for repair.
As you can see, have stripped the car basically down to the unibody for restoration. You can see from the pictures how solid the car is other than the areas previously mentioned. From front to back-the troughs, ockers, loor pans, enders, oors, rame rails, heel houses, nd most of the quarter panels are ROCK solid. My plan was to restore the car to a high end driver and not a total trailer queen so I decided to strip it to the level you see in order to address any sheet metal repair then work from the inside out. I took the interior out and had complete new Legendary interior done for it. I had several rally pack clusters and made the best one out of the parts thatI had. It has a NOS tach and a working clock!. I restored the heater/evaporator boxes and installed new heater core and evaporator. I have all parts for the interior-nothing is missing and in fact have many spares that will go with the car.
The car ran and drove when I got it but my plan was to completely refurbish everything so removed the engine and transmission so that they could be rebuilt. I disassembled the engine and took the parts to my engine builder for a complete rebuild. He hasn't touched it yet so it is sitting in his machine shop and will be included with the car in that condition. As it sits, t is .030 over 401 block as far as I can tell was all stock.Nothing has been done toit yet soyou will receive it that way.It had a torker intake, tock exhaust manifolds and an aftermarket carburetor. I have the stock distributor. I also have the factory ram air assembly to go with it as well.
I am pretty sure the car is missing nothing. I took everything apart and bagged and tagged parts/trim, asteners and put most everything in totes. I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of partsfor the restoration which will be included with the sale. Check out the unobtainablegrill tub!Not NOS, ut perfect!Very nice grill screen as well. It's worth 2Kalone. I have included pictures of what it looked like when I picked it up (car on the trailer) and a few of what it should look like when finished.
There are way too many things that I am sure I have forgotten to cover so if you are not sure, sk questions. I am not desperate to sell the car so please make serious offers. I also have a very nice loadedSienna orange 74 P code Javelin that needs nothing for a daily driver and I can't keep both. If this one doesn't bring what I am looking for, will list the Javelin.
