1986 Alfa Romeo GTV-6 Sedan Red RWD Manual V6 2.5
1986 Alfa Romeo GTV V6 2.5
Vehicle DetailsThis is a 1986 Alfa Romeo Gtv6… last four digit of VIN is 8033 making this car towards the very end of production line of last model year of production. I picked it up around 2007 with around 101,600 miles and drove it all the way back from Pittsburgh to Long Island and how memorable it was… Busso 2.5 just got stronger and stronger as I was nearing home . I drove it often from 2007 to 2017 and very sporadically thereafter. Presently it has 114,710 miles..
There is definitely the good & bad & ugly issues with this car so I would not recommend this car to anyone who is not familiar with this particular model or should be sold to enthusiast with Know-how to work on this type of cars.
The “Good” is that it is pretty well documented from 12/‘90 when it was titled in Fond DU Lac, Wisconsin with 27,579 on the odometer.. this owner was fastidious and recorded every gas he filled and services on a small pocket notebook (comes with the service records) To summarize, he owned it roughly till sometime in 2001/2002 with last mileage recording of 69,212 in June of 1999. During his tenure he did belt service at 38,400 in 10/‘93 …. at 57,722 in 8/‘95… at 68410 in 12/‘98
The next owner registered it in Charleroi,PA in 9/2002 and proceeded to use it on a regular basis till last service record in 2006 with 100,498 when he racked up $2400 mostly for front & rear suspension upgrade for auto crossing. He had also done update T belt service but service record is not available.. I bought the car around 9/2007 with 101,600..
During my time, the only major service required was Transmission/Clutch rebuild with otherwise regular Mobil 15/50 oil changes with our local Alfa specialist (no service records as they were misplaced during moving)… in the last few years, car has been ideling and update fuel pump and clutch master and slave cylinder has been replaced and the engine still starts at the first turn of ignition as it has always done.. Good power from Busso 2.5… Clutch/transmission synchros good… brake nice and firm… steering still tight with good tracking.. some rumble & vibration in the driveshaft but tolerable… some leak in the middle exhaust but Ansa rear appears intact.
The interior is fairly presentable since this has been Wisconsin/PA/NY car.. Dash is good with early cracks front of the vents (only recently started in last few year)… steering wheel leather Is intact but surface is abraded and dry cracked… seats recovered in vinyl with repair and rip noted in driver’s seat, instruments all appear to be working at this time, signals don’t work, headlight limited to low beam, windows are slow & iffy at best, carpet is still good
Exterior is still presentable but the car has been painted with some bodywork.. mediocre at best without much waviness, blistering or obvious break through from rust..
Inside engine could use updated cleaning up and there appears to be perforation behind shock tower on the passenger side with previous patching noted..
Now for the “bad & ugly”… in the recent service, car was carefully inspected… video is available on YouTube under “alfaromeo@gtv68033”.. the inspection shows drivers chassis rail where front suspension mount is attached is rusted and getting soft.. you don’t feel it in driving it as it tracks straight but you can see how rust is affecting the suspension mounting point on the drivers side.. there is additionally palm size hole underneath driver side floor pan where drain hole used to be.. the passenger side rail and front floor pan appears fully intact.. why just the driver side is mystery.. certainly when the car had major suspension upgrade in 2006, both sides must have been ok for previous owner to invest all the funds for the upgrade.. I can’t emphasize enough that while the car looks good with presentable interior/exterior.. and while engine and power train will just need routine update T belt…. What’s not routine is the chassis welding repair by someone qualified to do this type of work.. There is enough videos loaded on YouTube (alfaromeo@gtv68033) including 1. cold start, 2. engine running, 3. Driving, 4. Exterior, 5. Exterior/interior, 6.detailed video showing rust on the chassis rail while car is up on lift by a senior Tech at Scuderia110 in Port Washington, NY… if you have further questions, you can contact Harri.
Based on above description, this car is sold “as is”, “where is”, without any warranties implied or expressed whatsoever…and should be only bought by someone who loves this amazing ‘86 GTV6 #8033 as the last three owners have(at least based on available records since 1990).. with understanding it will now need extensive welding work along the drivers side suspension mounting points in the chassis rail.. Payment is cash, bank check, or wire-transfer only… Shipping is sellers responsibility but will try to help as best as possible with pick up.,, Good luck with auction and feel free to contact me for any questions
