1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

This car is relisted due to Buyers from outside the USA making offers through brokers. No Brokers Please.
This is a 2nd SERIES Spider with large rubber bumpers that many purists find less desirable than the stainless steel bumpers of the earlier cars. The U.S. cars were all fitted with safety equipment that added some protection for the occupants in case of accident, some unwelcome, but one was quite worthwhile . As a result of U.S. Federally Mandated Safety Standards Initiated in August 1976, all U.S. Spiders were equipped with a substantial metal brace/cage that surrounded the fuel tank and reinforced the chassis in order to prevent the fuel tank from being crushed from a rear end impact, that in conjunction with the massive bumpers provided a robust buffer to the force of a potential impact.Needless to say that was a good thing if the car was ever rear ended, as it would be less likely to burst into flames like the Ford Pinto, which had precipitated the regulations. All though this series may lack the graceful line that the earlier bumpers imparted, it does retain the beautiful dished Wooden Steering Wheel by Personal, double binnacle instrument cluster and incredible tooled stainless astray lid and other bright chrome/stainless accents, which later cars dispensed with in favor of cheap looking plastic instrument enclosure and far less exotic console and Vinyl rimmed steering wheel. All things considered this series vehicle is well suited to the real world and a Roadworthy Daily Driver that affords the driver and passenger a modicum of safety while still maintaining the vintage character that was Alfa Romeo. For those who don't know the difference between Research Octane Numbers and Motor Octane Numbers These cars run on Unleaded REGULAR GAS 87octane (R+M)/2 method and this car gets 240 miles on 10gals. of gas with 2.2 gal reserve remaining.

This vehicle is offered locally and this listing may end early.
