1974 Alfa Romeo Spica Restored
1974 Alfa Romeo GTV
This is my 1974 Alfa 2000 GTV. I purchased it in 1996 from Florida. I am now offering it for sale since I will move soon and will lose my garage space.
I searched for several months and found this GTV: it was a great example of a “driver” – that is, it is not a perfect show car or, more importantly, priced that way, but looked great and drove well.
I have listed the major points about the car and work that has been performed below.
The car is a US-spec 2000 GTV.
It has the original SPICA fuel-injection.
The Engine was rebuilt around 2000. The Head along with the Spica pump was sent to James Ingram. He rebuild both and adjusted it to a slightly hotter cam, that he installed to achieve approximately 170 HP.
I changed the cylinder liners and installed new pistons, bearings and rings, purchased from International.
I had a local speed racing shop weight balance all parts.
During this rebuild the Crankshaft-Oil-way passage plugs were drilled out then tapped and setscrews with Loctite were installed. A new oil pump was also installed. Along with a new clutch.
A full stainless-steel exhaust system with headers was installed from Alfaholics.
The radiator was rebuilt as well as the Fuel tank and a new fuel pump installed.
The Thermostatic actuator is new and works as it should.
It has a RML Optical Performance Ignition.
The second gear synchro was replaced.
The 5-speed manual transmission shifts very well with no issues in 2nd or any other gear.
The body is in great shape.
All Stainless steel trim pieces and the bumpers are in excellent shape.
There is no sign of rust on the body. The side view mirror is not original but a GTA replica mirror. However I do have the original.
The car had air-conditioning from the factory but I removed it to save weight and increase performance.
All the parts will come with the car.
The battery is located in the trunk as per the AC equipped GTVs.
Car rides on S157P Panasport wheels with excellent Pirelli tires.
It has 1” shorter Springs and yellow Koni shocks.
Interior is in very good shape for the most part – the stereo cutout is admittedly ugly.
However, the dash needs to be rebuilt. That is the reason why I left the radio out.
Seat upholstery is excellent.
Headliner is great.
Carpets are clean and in good shape.
Heat works.
Gauges are the correct Jaeger units as you can see in the photos. Only the Speedometer does not work it needs a new speedometer cable.
Fuel gauge works great when full, intermittently when near empty.
After the rebuild the care was driven less than a 1000 miles.
Car has the original spare and jack, along with owner's manual.
The little Alfa drives very well, is responsive, handles as it should and stops great. It has always been in a Garage under a car-cover. I would not have a problem driving this car anywhere, other than the obvious potential shortcomings of a 44-year-old car and I would replace the Spica Pump drive belt. Also the car just begs to be driven fast and may get me in trouble.
