I am listing this beautiful Alfa Romeo Montreal for a friend who is relocating this summer and selling some of his toys.
This is a very nice driver quality 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal having only five owners from new; the original Italian owner and four American owners. The last three owners are car collectors which is very important when it comes to acquiring a collector car. Differed maintenance and neglect can be hidden issues with collector cars of this age. Known history is important. This car has a history of responsiblecustodians and it remains very original without modifications.
This Montreal is the recipient of a recent tune up, Spica fuel injector tune and a radiator and oil cooler rebuild. The ignition boxes were rebuilt within the last 2 years. All gages work including the clock. The horn has a city and country switch and the country switch is currently not operational. The windows are slow - a Montreal characteristic. The front seats have recently been recovered and the rear seat and luggage straps are in exceptional condition. Montreal values appear to be on the rise again and this car looks great in black. The original color was AR 740 Escoli Grey and it has been painted black for some time. A new front grill surround was sourced from Italy and will convey to the new owner upon arrival in the U.S. as the current grill has a crack. The AC, while complete, has not been used by the last 2 owners. The car could have a few more miles on it as we have had a spell of good driving weather in Phoenix. The owner will no doubt want to enjoy driving this special Montreal as time permits before the sale and his impending move next month. This is a smooth running car.
Known History:
Sold originally in Naples Italy
Made it’s way to NJ and was owned by a doctor and his son.
In 1999 the car was sold and shipped to Florida and was owned for 15 years. During that time the car was driven to Michigan, Nashville, Atlanta, and Tampa Bay to Sarasota, all without incident.
The car was sold to collector #2 in 2014 and the current collector has owned the car for two years. He is downsizing and moving thus the sale. I will answer any questions to the best of my ability after consulting the current owner, I have been in contact with the last 3 owners to verify details. The Montana title is in the owners name and the car is currently located in Scottsdale. This is a private sale.
The Alfa Romeo Montreal (body by Bertone) was introduced at the 1967 Montreal World’s Fair.
It was introduced as a production car at the Geneva Auto show in 1970.
2017 will be the 50th anniversary of Expo 67, the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Federation, and the 375th anniversary of Montreal city.
The Montreal was the only post war Alfa V8 until the Alfa 8C of 2007-2010.
The race bred alloy 4 cam 5 bearing V8 engine was inspired from the tipo 33 Stradale race motor engineered by Carlo Chiti.
The designer of the Montreal was Marcello Gandini. He designed the Lamborghini Muira at age 27 and the Montreal at age 28. He went on to design the Lamborghini Contact. The Montreal has a great heritage.
These cars were never sold in North America and 70 are believed to be in the U.S.
In 2015 a Sports car Market seminar had 2 panelists that listed the Alfa Romeo Montreal as the best buy under $250.000. The highest recorded sale is $176,000 and a recent price of $125,000 was paid for a Montreal currently being imported to this country from Europe. We feel the asking price is certainly in line with the market and encourage inspections or questions. Assistance is available with shipping.
As a used vehicle, it is being sold as i, without warrant, neither expressed or implied.
