1973 Volvo Other

Price reduced!... I've taken delivery of another vintage car for my collection.
Up for sale is this very nicely preserved 1973 Volvo 164e sedan, perhaps the rarest of the vintage Volvo's from the 1960's/70's. The 164 series (which was only sold as a 4-door sedan) was Volvo's attempt to enter the luxury car market to compete with Mercedes and other luxury European sedans of the day. The single headlights and dual grilled horns were quite distinctive for this Volvo series. This particular car has only 105,500 documented miles, including over 41 years of care by the original owner.
In the past 1,000 miles, the following was completed:3-speed automatic transmission rebuilt (receipts included)oil/filter changetune-up with fresh spark plugsfuel tank drained and cleanednew factory spec electric fuel pump and filternew fuel lines
This 164 is rust free except for the usual surface rust underneath (see photos). A small area of rust was repaired and treated with POR-15 and then painted and is located at the bottom of the back fender, just behind the rear passenger wheel. The paint is the original Cypress green with typical small stone nicks and scuffs that have been touched up. While the car would benefit from a good compounding/clay bar and wax, it has recently been waxed and looks just great now as a 10-footer. All photos in this listing were taken this month (June 2017)
This 164 has the optional manual crank sunroof. It opens and closes properly and there are no leaks. All glass is clear and all windows roll up and down as they should. New front vent window locks. All chrome and rubber trim is complete and in very good condition- again, the photos tell the story.
The interior is very nice though showing a few wear spots. The dash top has one crack (see photo) and is covered by a custom dash cover. The passeneger front seat bottom has a few tears and the drivers seat bottom has wear but no tears except for a small area on the side. The back of the front seats and back seat are near perfect. The headliner is excellent. Black carpeting is perfect and, I assume, was replaced at some point. The rear deck lid is excellent.
All guages work except the clock. The fuel gauge occassionally shows empty when the tank is full and then bounces up to half when the tank is half full. I just use the trip odometer to track the fuel level. The original Volvo AM radio still works but sounds like an old AM radio from the 70's and probably could use a new dash speaker (the antenna is integrated into the front windshield). The a/c compressor turns but is not blowing cold. I suspect it needs to be charged and may also need new hoses/seals and connections from not being used for a few years. I drive my collector cars so infrequently that I did not investigate having this service done.
The trunk is exceptionally clean and includes the original jack and tools (see photo). The matched set of Goodyear tires is older but has decent tread remaining and are properly balanced and alligned. I have the original owners manual and some service receipts for the new owner.
The car runs like a dream and effortlessly cruises the highway at 70 mph. The recently rebuilt automatic transmission shifts perfectly. Those unfamiliar with the Volvo B30 six cylinder fuel injected engine will be impressed with the extra power compared to the popular Volvo 4 cylinder B18/b20 engines that were in their other cars. The B30 is essentially the same reliable B18 block expanded to 6 cylinders. The 164 was lengthened a bit to accomodate the new engine.
Owned by a Volvo collector and serviced by a local vintage Volvo specialist. *Please note that the front European license plate and the rear high mileage badge do not convey. Local inspections are encouraged. Garaged in Central Virginia, about 2 hours drive southwest of Washington D.C.
