1974 Volvo Other Base

Vintage 1974 Volvo 144 4-door sedan in the original factory orange color. The car currently has 117,280 miles. It’s the 140 model’s final year of production, before Volvo changed over to the long lived 200-series cars. This Volvo has an automatic 3-speed transmission. It’s a Canadian Market car that sports factory dual SU carburetors. A new transmission cable has recently been installed along with fresh transmission fluid. The main engine seal and bracket was recently replaced with OEM Volvo parts. The car comes with a vintage Nardi steering wheel (original steering wheel is also included) and IPD front sway bar, new suspension bushings and recent tune up. The car has some minor surface rust, some small dings and marks and a torn drivers’ seat. There are fitted plaid seat covers for the front seats. The car as a solid daily driver which can always be counted on to get you home. Starts right up every time. No smoke. You get lots of waves from other Volvo drivers.

Just had an oil change done with synthetic oil, high quality Fram oil filter and a new oil drain plug + gasket. Also had a full transmission service done - new transmission pan gasket, transmission filter kit, new transmission fluid. and I had a new rear pinion seal and rear cover seal installed plus new gear oil 80W90. Leaks a little bit of transmission fluid.

Car just had a newer style distributor installed with vacuum advance and electronic ignition. Parts- distributor, ignition module, coil, cap, rotor and drive gear set.

The final year of the 140 saw several changes over previous examples, including more substantial front and rear bumpers than the 1973 cars and the addition of single piece front windows. This example sports original steel wheels with hubcaps and beauty rings. the car has complete chrome trim overall. some of the chrome trim has dings/dents in it. The headlights are updated H4 halogen bulbs. A pair of bends on the trunk lid, though they don’t impede opening and closing the trunk. The car has a huge trunk and the trunk lock works. Full size spare tire in the trunk plus jack.

Some rust is present, the worst of which is by the trailing edge of the rear wheel arches. none of the rust appears to be structural, and the cabin and trunk floors are solid with only minor surface corrosion. See all photos for the locations of surface rust. The orange paintwork shows a good shine, original color for the car. I think the hood and doors may of been repainted? I'm not for sure. there are no receipts for any paint work on the car.

Because of a torn drivers’ seat, the seats have been covered with plaid seat covers. The rear and passenger’s seats are in better condition. The blocky plastic dash is protected by a carpeted cover, and still appears to be in good condition under the cover. patches of velcro are applied on the dash to hold the dash cover in place. A vintage Nardi steering wheel is fitted. Both the horn and clock arecurrently not working. A bluetooth-capable Retrosound head unit with Becker-esque faceplate fills out the center console, and nicely patterned Cocomats lend a nice period-correct look to the cabin.

Under the hood surfaces are dry and clean and standard, apart from the K&N stickers on the airbox. This Canadian market car is fitted with dual SU carbs rather than the EFI fitted to US market cars. The car is fitted with Bilstein Touring shocks, an IPD front sway bar, all new rubber suspension bushings and brake pads, and a new fuel pump. The heater blows hot even when set to a cool setting, and a stuck valve is suspected. No air conditioning installed in car.

The car requires about half-choke when starting on cold days, and starts easily when up to temperature. A recent tune-up and wheel alignment round out the recent services. I have a large folder of records and repairs for the car dating to the 1980s when itwas still in Canada.

Car is sold as-is, where is. No warranty. Send me an email if you have any questions about the car. Or if you want more photos of a certain area of the car. Buyer is responsible for arranging delivery of car. I can recommend a couple car transport companies if you want.
