1982 VW Diesel Vanagon Camper WestfaliaRe-Listed
I bought this a few years ago on E bay as a project. There was rust on the right side panel behind the sliding door so i replaced that panel with one from a donor van. The doors and rear hatch on the donor were all in great shape so I replaced those as well. It looks as if someone has replaced the lower panel on the left side but the finish body work leaves a bit to be desired,so I had plans to replace it as well. The panel on the donor Van is excellent. It may be that a good body man could fix this area up without replacement of that panel. The remaining panels on my donor vehicle are very nice and will supply any body parts one might need. The donor Van is included with the auction but it is pretty well picked over. The steering and suspension parts are still there and are super nice. I was considering using the rear trailing arms and possibly the front steering and suspension as well just because they are better looking. Rather than shipping the donor I will help the winning bidder strip it on my trailer. If stripping it will result in it no longer being able to roll I would want it on the trailer so I can haul it to the scrap folks. If the buyer wants it though he/she is free to take the entire thing as like it sits.
The tent on the pop top has been replaced and is in good condition. I removed much of the interior to be able to do body work. but it is all there. except for one table top. I did not remove the refrigerator sink cabinet. The underside of the Van is in good shape. No holes No rust through. Look at the pictures and ask questions for condition. I can take more pictures if needed.
The diesel engine is locked up. The previous owner said it happened after they installed the head during a head gasket change. Because of it's lack of power my plan was to replace the original diesel engine with a gasoline version of the same block or a diesel VW TDI engine. I have a 1.6 Turbo diesel from an 85 Jetta I purchased from a salvage yard. I am including that engine with the sale of the Westy. This engine is partiallydisassembled because I wanted to check it's condition. (The head and oil pan have been removed). It only needs rings, gaskets, and new head bolts. The rod bearings even look okay to re-use. The turbo could use a freshening though. I also have a 2002 VW Beetle TDI that had a cylinder misfire last time it was run. I kept it to possibly be an ALH TDI engine donor. The Beetle has no title and can be negotiated separately. If you have been looking at Vanagons for a while you know that there is a muItitude of engine possibilities, adapters, kits and so forth available for them. I am also including a set of Mercedes rims that appear to have the correct offset. The lug holes need to be drilled to 14mm yet to make them fit the lug bolts/studs.

I listed this vehicle earlier this month. I had a reserve of $2500.00 but the bidding only got up to $1925 even though the top bidders knew the reserve. Again, this time aroundI am includingthe 1.6 TD engine to sweeten the pot. The reserve is $2500.00 but please do not bid unless you are serious. The 1.6TD Engine, the Pop Top, the cabinets, and the rest of the Westy conversion are worth the $2500.00. If you have been looking at these you know what they are worth just running and driving. Once again this is a project. If you don't have the skills to do the majority of the work toresurrectthis one you probably shouldn't bid. It would probably be better for you to go ahead and spend the 8 to 40 Grand to get a driving Westy.
Just so there is no misunderstanding, (and to cover my hind quarters) this is local pickup, unless the buyer makes all arrangements to have the vehicle picked up. I will not ship this vehicle. That said I do have a car hauler trailer, and a truck. If not to great a distance (Like a couple hundred miles) I might be agreeable to delivering or partially delivering part of the items included in this auction. Fuel expenses will be on the buyer. This needs to be worked out in advance.
