Description:

1968 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

Rare, 1968 Panel Van with Automatic Transmission.

This is a sharp looking, clean panel van with a clean interior. Runs well, could be daily driver. The Red and Cream two tone paint are classic VW. This is the first year for the Type 2, Bay Window. We purchased it a year ago and immediately had a lot of work done to it.

What's new on the bus: Most work was completed by Sonoma Volkswagen & Import, a vintage bus and bug specialist.

4 brand new tires, rated for light duty trucks, right rear wheel bearing replaced, right axle replaced, tune-up, valve adjustment, new turn signal switch, new ignition switch, new exhaust system with muffler, new beetle style resonator exhaust pipes, $1685 Auto Trans from 1978 Bus from Way Out Salvage, with all accessories and interior fittings, Auto Trans rebuild byHarold Carter at Rancho Performance Transaxle in SoCal,custom auto trans installation by Sonoma VW, new battery, new battery tray, outer wheel bearings, original steering wheel replaced, valve cover gaskets, engine compartment seals, left front wheel bearings, steering box replaced, all 4 CV joints replaced, all four brakes rebuilt with new drums and shoes, all wheel cylinders replaced.

Things that make the bus not perfect:

left rear quarter panel has peeled clear coat on paint, body at left tail light needs repair, there's a crack and blistered paint, some minor rust bubbles here and there, some minor chips here and there, dashboard has tear under radio outlet, but have a replacement dashboard that's in very good condition that comes with the van, easy to replace, needs a little sprucing up.

I also have a fiberglas Camper Top purchased at a salvage yard if you want to convert to an original Westfalia. It is correct for the Type Two Buses 1968-1972. It is original and in ok condition, needs some work. $500 extra.

I purchased it a year ago from SoCal to potentially use it for a business but my plans changed and the bus has been in a garage driven once a week since then.
