1963 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic Cabriolet

Beautiful Anthracite Gray with Black Convertible Canvas top, 1963 Volkswagen Beetle. The VW received a major rebuild in 2011 by the previous owner when living in Florida. He replaced the engine with a 1600 single port, long block from Hilltop Motors in Florida and the engine build completed by the owner. He converted the electrical system to 12 Volts. He changed the charging system from generator to an alternator. The original pan was in rough shape so he swapped it out for a rock solid pan and other parts from dry New Mexico VW. The pan still looks like new, no welded in replacement panels like you usually find in the mid west. This is not a numbers matching car. New reinforcement rails were installed. The carpet and interior were completely replaced with a kit from TMI. The light gray/cream interior and black carpet work really well with the Anthracite Gray paint. The black canvas convertible top is in excellent shape and works nice. I never drive the VW in the rain or bad weather so the top isn't up very often. Why buy a convertible if you keep the top up? There is an AM/FM CD player installed in the glove box, the dash was not cut. The VW was repainted in it"s original Anthracite Gray, and it's a head turner. At car show's that is probably the most common conversation - That's beautiful, what color is that? There are a few small bubbles on the rear apron. With the engine lid closed you can hardly see it. I have included a picture showing that. The car is equipped with the EMPI Sprint Star 15" black with polished aluminum finish wheels. The spare tire also has the same wheel.
The engine runs very well. The muffler has the wide chrome tips and that sound great on the road. I've driven the car from Michigan to Illinois (120 miles each way) several times and the engine just purr's along. The P.O> installed a high efficiency fan, oil pressure gauge andtemperature gauge to deal with the hot conditions in Florida. He did not install heater boxes and went with J-pipes instead. He didn't need heat in the car. I drive the car in Michigan where it's a bit cooler but as I mentioned earlier, I don't drive it in bad weather and I don't put the top up so the heater hasn't been an issue. The heater knob and cables are installed in case someone wants to put in heater boxes.
There are a few minor issues to mention. The radio antenna is broken. In fact I've broken it twice while either installing or removing the car cover. I've alreadypurchased a new antenna from J-Bugs and it goes with the car. But I'm not putting it back on. The windshield motor is the original 6 volt motor. It works, but obviously much faster. I don't really use it. The horn works bit it gives me trouble. You have to hit the button just right. It doesn't activate whenpressing the horn ring. In a full turn it sometimes honks. I've installed a new horn ring kit but Ididn'tfind much improvement. I have a few boxes of extra 63 VW parts that go with the car, and the owners manual. The speedometer was replaced during the rebuild so the miles listed are not actual.
I'mselling this beauty as I have too many projects to deal with. I'm retired and don'thave the energy that i used to have. Please take a close look at the pictures and feel free to ask any questions before you make any decisions. The bug is being sold as is with nowarranties implied. No trades. I've tried to describe the car as best as I can. That has helped me maintain my 100% rating with E-bay.
