Description:

1968 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Westfalia Campmobile

1968 Volkswagen Westfalia Campmobile VW Bus

1968 VW Bus with the Westfalia Campmobile package. The Bus is a cross country traveler. It's latest journey has been from Oregon to Philadelphia, and ending in South Philly.

I have taken much care to keep this as period correct as possible. The only things left to do is body work, paint, and a little electrical tlc.I have decided to leave the body as is which affords me to sell this at a much lower price then it's final restored value. After paint, this rare 1968 model year Bus with bring 30k or more.(Just try to find a 1968 as complete as this one). Don't miss your chance to own a genuine peace of American History that is actually still alive and kicking.

This Bus is a driver.More then capable of family camping trips and weekend adventures. The rear tires are larger than factory to afford a more drivable gear ratio.

The engine has just been rebuilt with new jugs, pistons, and heads. This Brazilian block engine was bored out and converted to a dual Solex carburetor setup by the previous owner. The engine pulls strong and has much more kick then you would expect from an old Volkswagen.

All four jack points have been replaced using proper welding techniques. Also any undercarriage corrosion has been arrested, ground out, and replaced with sheet metal.

The interior is the star of the show here. All original equipment items are in excellent condition. They show signs of wear only through use, not neglect. The Westfalia sink and ice box are in working order.Holds 5 gallons of water with a hand pump faucet. The original wood paneling and cabinets are still beautiful. All the cabinet trim has been replaced with new white OEM moldings. Beautiful new curtains have been installed and can be either closed for privacy or opened for driving.A cabin divide curtain and a sliding door curtain of the same fabric are also included. The seats in the rear cabin have been rebuilt from their bases up with new foam and tastefully designed heavy duty fabric.New carpet has also been installed in the rear cab as well as the cabinet areas.

The drivers cab is in original condition. From Sun Visors to the Rubber Floor Mats, everything is original and in great condition.Even the rear view mirror, which had to be replaced, is an old stock OEM part. The driver and passenger seats look great as you can see in the photos. The only things that are not factory is the radio and the tachometer. Both of which are items the previous owner installed.

Reasons for selling:

I would love to keep this Volkswagen Bus. I acquired it in 2013 and it has been my prized possession ever since. I'm proud to own this vintage Volkswagen. But I am buying a house, plan on proposing to my girlfriend, and we want to start a family. Needless to say the sale of this VW Bus can jump start the rest of my life. It's time for my prized possession to become someone else's prized possession.

A brief VW Bus history:

1968 is the first year for for the Bay Window Model. This comes after the much loved Split Window era (which are now so expensive that these models are simply unattainable for the middle class). The early model year Bay Window Bus (1968-1970) is the best of the bunch in my opinion.A major redesign took place, the motor was upgraded.Brake and suspension upgrades.Chassis upgrades. The New 1968 VW Bus was the best driver yet.The 1968 - 1970 Bus still remains a highly sought after model because these years still retain that old world charm that classic cars are loved for. From 1971 and up VW began loosing the its old world charm.By the mid 70's VW cared more about meeting changingsafety standards began making style compromises to protect over seas sales. That is why the 1968-1970 VW Bus remains the last affordable true classic that will never go out of style.

Edit: Wednesday June 6th 2019The front windshield has a crack. The crack is visible in the photos yet I forgot to add it in the vehicle description. It has been there for years and has not grown in length. Please do not let this deter your interest. I am getting a quote for windshield replacement. Should only be a couple hundred dollar item. Also, I am getting new front tires installed. Happy bidding.
