This 1982 Westfalia was originally a water cooled diesel but has been converted to a VW inline 1.8L gas engine. It is water-cooled and carbureted. The 1.8L engine is out of an 1986 VW Jetta and was rebuilt two years ago. It runs strong and has plenty of power. Within the past week I had a full tune up including plugs, wires, cap, rotor, new fuel filter and fuel lines. Arctic Imports replaced the oil filter housing seal, fuel pump seal, and oil pan seal. The engine is seated to the diesel bell housing and transmission, which tilts the engine to fit.
The body has the original paint and pin stripes. It is very clean and straight. Alaska does not use salt on the roads so the Westfalia does not have undercarriage rust. It is extremely clean and solid. You can see where the original paint has aged. The interior is all original accept for the front seats. The original front seat upholsteryis gone and the foam is covered with seat covers. They are the spinning seats. You can buy the original matching cloth online and have them upholstered. It has all the original curtains. The cabinets are in excellent condition. Some of shelving adhesive tape veneer has shriveled. Some of the ceiling panels and rear panels veneer is gone from the panel. I can message pics.
The pop top is in good condition. It does have a couple small fiberglass patches. It comes with a Thule roof rack. The canvas is decent but does have a few small tears that can be stitched. The window zipper is broken and the screen has a few tears. The stove, refrigerator, and sink all operate fine and are very clean. The propane tank works and the adapter has been updated.
For it's age this Westfalia is in great condition. It is an excellent camper to tour Alaska and live in for the summer.
