Description:

1976 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon

This is a nice 1976 Westy Tin Top which are getting harder to find. The motor is a 2 liter fuel injected engine that was replaced according to the previous owner. Last week it got fresh oil and filter, air filter, and plugs. I will try to have my mechanic adjust the valves and timing this week. He is retired so not sure he is available. The motor runs good once warmed up. Previous owner said it needed rear shocks. All the lights including the inside rear light work. License plate light needs replacement.
The owners before the man I bought it from did the interior. The previous owner started to strip the veneer off some of the cabinets which I repaired with new authentic VW veneer l. It is very brittle to cut so the edges are a bit rough and the material matches but looks newer. The tile floor and cushions look good, the back being sun faded but still presentable. The 2 front seats were redone by previous owner and look good. There is a stain on the bottom of the passenger side door panel. The headliner is in good shape except in the middle it is sagging slightly. I would put a screw in the middle along with a quarter size washer. There is some surface rust under the rubber mat both passenger and driver's side. The windows are in good shape, missing a screen on one side which I may have a replacement frame. The driver's side window is stuck about 1/3 the way up. May need a regulator but I have not looked into it. There is a radio not hooked up to speakers. Previous owner hooked it up to a center channel.
The exterior was painted about 8 years ago and shows wear. There is surface rust in spots but this is mostly a very solid VW Bus. There is a hole (see photo) on one of the rockers. The entire piece can be purchased or repair the hole. Small rust spot on passenger side by the wheel well. Underneath has surface rust as the undercoating has peeled. The rain gutters have surface rust but are still solid. There is some surface rust and light pitting underneath both gutters above the windows. There is surface rust and some pitting around where the engine seal collected moisture. It will need some cleaning up and a new engine rubber seal. The battery tray is a piece of wood as the metal one rusted through. There is a patch of surface rust and pitting under the front spare tire where water got trapped. The top is straight with some small spots of surface rust. The paint job was average at best. It is presentable but could certainly use a paint job. There are original Westfailia badges on passenger side. The sliding door works great.
The Bus comes with a swivel table kept inside in the spare tire cupboard. It comes with jack and tire removal tools. Original owners manual is included. The Bus will come with 4 extra VW rims and tires. The previous owner put the current rims and tires on. The rims have some surface rust but could be cleaned up and painted to your liking. The original rims do not have hub caps which can be bought on most VW web sites. Personally, I like the original wheels best.
