1972 VW 411 Sedan. 1.7 fuel injection with an automatic transmission. Picked this up last year as a non runner. Has not been on the road in around 15 years. Clear PA title in my name
New Interstate battery, new fuel pump and filter, all rubber fuel lines replaced. Cap, rotor, points, condenser, plugs, and wires all new. Oil and filter changed. Runs very well, always starts right up after a couple of key cycles to prime the fuel lines.
Transmission fluid is clean, drained and refilled the differential.
Reman master cylinder, I rebuilt the front calipers, new caliper hardware and pads, the rear has new cylinders and new shoes, replaced all 4 rubber hoses as well as the hoses from the fluid reservoir to the master cylinder. I have new front rotors for it that I have not installed.
I have driven it a few miles around town and it did well but bring a trailer!
Body of the car is very solid, no serious rust issues. The worst rust is at the leading edge of the front fenders. The right rear window is currently a piece of plexiglass but I have the correct glass, trim, and gasket that will go with the car. There are some dents in the roof panel that could be massaged out. All glass is good, windows all work. The front trunk release cable is stiff and I have just been leaving it popped open until I had time to look at it. Can be closed and reopened for transport.
Interior is fair to rough depending on where you look. Its complete with the lower steering column cover and shelf and floor mats. Sapphire radio still installed, lights work, one low beam headlight out. Wipers work. I have bypassed the gas heater and have not looked at it.
Still needs some work to be a reliable driver but its probably one one of the last early 411s left and is in very savable condition. Being a life long VW enthusiastI really wanted to complete the last bit of work it needs and take it to local shows or park it at the ice cream shop and just watch peoples reactions! Too many projects at the moment and I need to let it go.
