Description:

1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia

This is a great car but I’m in need of room and cash for another project.I’ve enjoyed driving this car around town, it’s a lot of fun and quite a head turner. The entire car was gone through and painted about ten years ago. More modifications have been done in the past two years (wheels and front end) but only about 5000 miles have been put on the engine and transmission since installed. The paint is great and the underneath is 100% solid. Floor pans were properly done when the car was restored and you will find it very clean with zero rust underneath. It is has always been driven in fair weather and always garaged when not in use. The engine was upgraded to a high compression 1600 cc dual port flat four fed by two Solex carbs and the transmission was rebuild and upgraded with performance parts from SCAT. I recently swapped the original shifter out for a SCAT aluminum short shifter which for my taste greatly improved the driving experience. The original shifter will come with the car and very simply bolts back on with two bolts. The front end was swapped out with a RLR (Ron Lummus Racing) king and link pin beam narrowed by four inches and is adjustableby 2” up or down from middle so ride height can be adjusted. The original beam and steering coupler are included with the sale of the car and are simple to reinstall (six bolts and the coupler). The 15” Aluminum BRM Speedwell EMPI wheels are brand new. You can see in the pictures that I blacked them out with removable Plasticoat . I did this to see how I liked it before committing to painting them. They came out well enough to just keep the Plasticoat on there. If you like the look you can keep it. If you like the polished aluminum wheels you can remove the Plasticoat in just minutes per wheel. The Michelin XZX tires metric tire sizes are 15x135 in front and 15x165 in back. Torsion covers are intact and not tampered with. There are several paint imperfections and some road rashes were touched up with a paint that didn’t match perfectly as you will note in the pictures. The convertible top is pinpoint vinyl and though it has no rips or tears it has shrunk a bit and is not perfectly weather tight but, after all, this isn't a rainy day car.All in all the changes made are nicely done and not uncommon, and can easily be brought back to stock if you don’t prefer the resto-mod look. The clutch is perfect, the drive is excellent with no wandering or wobble, the engine provides plenty of get up and go and the exhaust note is fantastic. Valves are adjusted properly and the oil is maintained regularly. All lights function properly. Original Blaupunkt radio does work but sometimes it won’t shut off so I disconnected it so it won’t drain the battery. Rear brake drums and shoes were just replaced last month. It is currently registered, insured and has a current inspection sticker. I’ve tried to offer as much info up front but please sent me any questions you may have.

Additional items included in sale: Original spare tire, tire jack, sideview mirror, stick shifter, owner's manual, front beam and steering coupler, two new brake pistons, boot cover bag, and other misc items.

Reasonable offers welcome, this is a fantastic car and a hard to find year to find especially with convertible. Below you can see I have priced it just a little above Hagerty's valuation tool "Good" value for this car.
