Volkswagen Rabbit Pickup Truck - 1981 Diesel Caddy - Needs work

Price: - Item location: Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Description:

19810000 Volkswagen Rabbit

Selling my 1981 diesel Volkswagen Rabbit 4-speed manual transmission daily driver of the past 6 months to someone with a little more time on their hands to fix him up. Never left me stranded in 6 months of driving including one 700 mile weekend trip. Parked now due to suspected head gasket failure.
GOOD:Strut towers look greatNew Bosch alternator (6 mos)New battery (installed 2 months ago)Straight bodyShifts smoothlyTires less than 3 months old (still have little knobbies - see pic)Never failed to start as long as I've owned it (6 months)Timing belt changed by previous owner (within past 9 months)Tailgate worksClear Tennessee titleSliding back glass
BAD:Suspected head gasket leak but not confirmed (oil in coolant reservoir, ut no coolant noted in oil at last oil change approximately 1000 miles ago). Could be something simpler, ut I want to be up front. Truck began losing coolant and oil around the passenger side radiator area two days ago (shown in pic). Truck starts, uns, rives, nd shifts fine, ut due to this, HOULD BE TOWED, OT DRIVEN by winning bidder to prevent damage.Odometer / Speedo cable broken so stated mileage is inaccurate.Rust in the usual rabbit places like floorboards (though not strut towers - strut towers are great)Could eventually use a new CV joint and some brake work or more likely brake boosterInterior and exterior cosmetics are so-so / to be expected for a 30+ year old work truck.
Overall, his is a great little truck with lots of potential that loves to work. Ready to find a new home. Sold as-is so feel free to ask any questions before auction ends. Pick-up is buyer's responsibility but I am willing to hold for a couple weeks if shipping arrangements need to be lined up. Just let me know. Thanks for looking and good luck!

UPDATE: I took a closer look at the floorboards and the rust situation is much better than I thought. Thin line of rust through by the driver seat rail. Nothing rusted through on the passenger side as far as I could tell. No visible rust from the outside around the windshield / A pillars either. Better than most of these Rabbit trucks I've seen. Added pics.
