Description:

1974 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon Campmobile deluxe

This beautiful, much loved 1974 VW Campmobile is up for sale. This VW bus is the perfect adventure vehicle for those times when you just wanted to hit the road, camp and explore. The functional and mechanical aspects of the vehicle have been sorted out, as illustrated by the extensive list of details bellow. The vehicle does not represent an immaculate restoration, but instead it has the appropriate level of "wear and tear" for a vintage VW bus that has been well used and loved for. Our family is growing and our needs are changing, and thus we are reluctantly selling our "kombi" to the next loving owner and onto a new adventure.

If interested, please call (520) 300-1068.

Drive train:

·"Type 4" 2.0L, 70hp, GD engine from a 1975 bus, that has been rebuilt by Complete Bug and Rail in Tucson. This is in effect a "Porsche" engine and it was a vast improvement in terms of power and reliability over the "Type 1" engine found in the earlier Bay Window VW buses.

·New engine seal.

·Recent oil (20-50W) change with a new filter, and recent valve adjustment.

·The oil sump plug has been replaced with a new VDO oil temperature-sending unit.

·New VDO oil temperature gauge installed in the empty gauge where an optional clock would be.

·New EMPI four tip exhaust with a complete set of new gaskets.

·The original 003 automatic transmission, shifts through the gears flawlessly, and is a pleasure to drive.

·Four new (not remanufactured) CV half-shaft axles, with new joints and boots.

Ignition:

·New starter.

·New ignition coil.

·New points.

·New distributor cap and rotor.

·New condenser.

·New NGK spark plugs.

Fuel:

·Rebuilt, and properly tuned, Progressive Weber carburetor.

·New air filter.

·New fuel-sending unit float.

·All (from the tank, to the carburetor) of the original "cloth" fuel lines have been replaced with modern rubber ones.

·New 12V fuel pump with a new fuel filter.

Electrical:

·All original electrical components (headlights, tail lights, dash lights, etc.) are functioning, although the turn signals do not self-cancel when turning the steering wheel.

·New battery.

·Original "All Transistor" radio works beautifully, with a brand new speaker installed in the original location on the dash.

·New 100W amorphous silicone solar panels that charge a new 105 Amp-hour deep cycle gel battery that is in parallel with the engine battery allowing the alternator to charge both while the vehicle is running. A new continuous duty solenoid isolates the batteries when the vehicle is not running allowing one to run all of the electrical accessories (including the interior neon light, sink water pump, and radio) from the deep cycle battery. The solar panels are installed on the pop-top, which is at the perfect angle when it is raised.

·New solar panel charge controller with two USB plugs.

·New 400W inverter with two outlets for 120V AC appliances, and one USB plug.

·Two New 12V LED lights that plug into the charge controller. These are very bright, and are useful lighting up the campsite.

Wheels and Brakes:

·Brand new LT195/75/14 Goodyear Rambler All Terrain tires from Tire Recappers. These are "Light Truck" tires with the proper load range ("C”, 6-ply) for a VW bus. They have an aggressive tread that handles adverse conditions well, and they are also very smooth on the freeway.

·New passenger-side tie rod, with the correct toe-in adjustment.

·The steering box has been adjusted with a new center drag link. This provides true and responsive steering that makes driving the kombi a pleasure.

·Original power (vacuum assisted) disk brakes function very well, with new brake pads in the front and a new vacuum check valve.

·Two new front brake hoses.

·New brake master cylinder reservoir.

·New shocks on all four wheels provide an even profile, and a smooth ride at all speeds.

Interior:

·The Campmobile Westfalia interior is complete and fully functional in original un-restored condition. It is a unique version that was offered for only two years (1974-75) and is an interesting "blend" between the earlier and later Bay Window bus interiors. The Westfalia interior includes:

oThe Z-bed (rear seating that folds down into a bed for two) with storage underneath.

oThe original table folds out over the rear seat. The table also has a sliding leaf to adjust its size.

oLarge cabinet in the back (where the spare tire was originally stored) has a bar for hanging clothes and works well as a dresser.

oThe original icebox refrigerator works very well at keeping things cold, and drains directly behind the passenger front tire.

oThe two-burner stovetop above the refrigerator is fully functional and is powered by a propane tank underneath the sliding door. The propane tank has been fitted with a brand new shut off valve.

oTwo electrical outlets for city power can be used when the vehicle is plugged into a 120V, AC source on the outside of the vehicle.

oThe sink has a new water tank underneath it, and a new faucet with a switch that supplies water through a new electrical water pump.

oThe pop-top is fitted with brand new fabric that has three mosquito-netted windows, including one that provides access to the rooftop rack. The top also contains another folding bed for two.

oTwo new heavy-duty hydraulic struts assist in raising the pop-top.

oTwo jalousy windows on each side of the vehicle.

·New leading edge pop-top seal.

·New laminate Cherry hardwood floors.

·The original upholstery is in remarkably good condition. The front seats have new original style covers from TMI that are very comfortable and functional.

·The original headrests are in good shape, but are currently not installed on the front seats.

·Original three-point seat belts in the front, and three lap belts in the back seat.

·New curtains that cover all of the windows, including privacy curtains that can cover the windows of the front doors and the windshield to provide complete coverage.

·Original mosquito netting for the back allows one to leave the back door open without introducing insects.

·New hardwood door panels and kick panels.

·Brand new front floor matting made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.

Body and Exterior:

·All original and rust-free body. The battery tray has had rust that has been "fixed" with a metal plate. Underneath the kombi still has the original coating.

·The kombi is currently wearing a repaint in a two-tone white and the original Yosemite Yellow (which is more of a green rather than yellow).

·Original sekurit glass in excellent shape with perfectly functioning windows.

·New windshield wipers.

·Original lenses in good shape.

·Two new rear side markers.

·Fully functional mirrors.

·Functional spare tire has been moved from the original location (the large cabinet in the back) to the front of the vehicle.

·The original keys open, close, and lock all doors.

·Fully functional sliding door.

·The heater boxes are missing the flaps and are not connected to the ducts. The original and functional heater fan (operated by a lever at the dash) has been removed from the engine bay, but is included.

Included:

·Original and fully functional Bilstein jack, located in its original location, underneath the passenger seat

·An assortment of spare parts (ignition coil, spark plugs, C.V. axles, light bulbs, etc.)

·A stack of receipts documenting the vehicles maintenance and replacement of all of the parts listed above

Conclusion:

·This is a running, stopping, and driving, 43-year-old vehicle, and as such no guarantee or warranty is given or implied.

·The vehicle is being sold "as is”: a beautiful, well-maintained, and unmolested 1974 VW Campmobile.
