1966 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic

I have always felt information is power, there is nothing I hate more than a add with little to no information, buying a car online is a big deal, I want to make it as painless and honest as I can. Feel free to ask questions, I am willing to help with shipping (at buyers expense) and loading. I will make this as simple as I can. I ask that you be fair with me as well, please only bid if you intend to buy, I will not waste your time, I ask the same respect. Happy bidding.

Short version, my wife has informed me that we need a new mini van and that I need to sell my little bug. This is a 1966 vw beetle which just finished a extended full restoration/ resto-mod. 100 miles on everything. Runs and drives good. Full new interior and a clean utah title. It is a fine example of a driver. Paint job is a 5 footer, not show quality, but still shows great.

Super long version, I bought this in many pieces from a co-worker. He bought it from his brother. In law. The brother in law reportedly bought 3 bugs in 1997, stripped them and kept the best bits of all of them to make one really good bug. On the best shell he replaced the floor, the front horn, filled the body holes, and a bunch of rust in the back fenders with new stamping, then had it painted zeneth blue. The engine was pulled and torn down as was the trans and front suspension all three were rebuilt, and adjusters were welded into the front beam. He got about 1/2 way through the restoration before his wife left him, and he decided hard drugs was a good idea. Soon after he ran out of money (as seems to happen with drug addictions) and sold the whole project to my coworker, who planned to finish it for his wife to drive, as he had seen first hand how much work and time had gone into the car to that point. The car sat in his shop for a few years, at some point the back left window was broken and the shop roof leaked, causing the one rust spot that has not been treated (as I have no way to paint, I left it.) A year and a half ago my coworker’s daughter was born, with medical complications and, desperate for money, he asked if I would buy the bug from him. This is my 5th bug, and my second full restoration (ok this one was only a half restoration for me as a ton of work had been done previously by the brother in law)The car had been off the road for 20 years when I bought it, and aside from the one rust spot and some small paint defects, (and the completely missing interior when I got it) it was in really good shape. I have spent two years building, assembling, and breaking in this car. I tore down the engine, and resealed it, everything inside was new and un-run, while it was apart, i re-applied brake-in lube and honed the cylinder jugs ( they still had assembly grease on them) I rebuilt the carburetor, and cleaned a bunch of coagulated dust off it (with my wife’s super expensive and fancy kitchen cleaner, she almost killed me when she saw it.) it has been broken in and starts and runs great. I bought seat frames, rebuilt them, and had them upholstered at a local shop, they look awesome. The door panels came with the car but were in rough shape, I got them looking a ton better, but there is a bit of contact cement stuck to the passenger door one. The rims were sent to a shop where they were sand blasted, powder coated black, then to I tire shop where Crome valve stems and new tires were installed, while that was happening, I installed new wheel calendars, brake springs, and new brake shoes, the drums were in fine shape. The fuel tank and fuel sender got a rebuild next, and a new fuel line was run. I spent $1500 on little trim pieces, and nick knacks alone, I am super proud of how this car has turned out, but my wife is right, this little car, cool as it is, does not fit my life needs right now. I will have another someday, but this one is for someone else to enjoy now. Also You should know there is 2 spots where the clear coat is peeling, one on the roof, one or the front right fender. Could be buffed out.

Here is a brake down of what’s new and what comes with it:

Complete new interior, new seat pads, rebuilt frames, new covers, new carpet, new bits like visors, mirror, etc. headliner is a older, and has a few holes in it, but not bad all in all.

New brakes, new wheel cylinders, re-packed bearings, all rotating assemblies in fine shape. Hand brake works, but the button is broken, easy to find and change, I just leave it in gear.

Full rebuilt engine, new heads,1600 c.c. duel port manifold and duel oil pressure relief engine case, It also has Teflon "button" wrist pin keepers in it. Rebuilt carb with two spares and an extra carb rebuild kit. Runs really good.

I was told the trans was rebuilt, I cannot verify this, but will say it stays in gear well, in all gears, shifts smooth, and makes no bad noises. New clutch and throw out bearing.

All mounts replaced with polyurethane, including the shift rod bushings.

New tie rod ends, front beam lowered with adjusters back dropped 2 teeth on the rear springs, I love the height, but if you do not a 19mm wrench and 2 hours work will put ita lot taller. That said it clears speed bumps great and I have had no scrapes yet.

Wheels sand blasted, powder coated, and new tires and valve stems. I also have some of the hub cap clips and two caps, in ok shape, I did not like the look... so I did not get them installed, new big caps are $20 and clips are $5 per rim online, if you want.

Also the bumpers, I have three correct ‘66 bumpers 1 rear 2 front. they will come with the sale, I never liked how bumpers on bugs looked, they are too bit and make the car look long, so I took them off. You can put them on if you want.

The same theme of streemlineing was applied to the front blinkers. The ones on top of the fender always looked dumb to me, so the blinkers are in the brand new headlight housing, if you like the traditional look two good origonal fender top blinkers are in that box of spare parts, and switching 4 wires is easy. You will need to drill the holes to mount them.

This sale also includes a bunch of extra engine parts, oil coolers, carbs, rebuild kits, 3 duel port heads, 2 extra pop out windows, 4 wheel adapters, a gallon of automotive color matched paint, and tons of other stuff.

Easily $700 in spares.

I do not like the reserves, so I am not adding one. I am needing $7000 out of the sale of this car, I contend you will not find a better beetle of this type for that price.

Let me know how I can make buying this car easy for you. Also please no trade offers, I need cash for the wife’s new van.
