1964 VW Bug Factory Correct Restoration
I purchased this bug in 1995 from the second owner who never drove it, had bought it to restore but decided to sell. I spent the next 20 years collecting as many NOS VW parts as I could find to restore this Amazing VW Bug to showroom condition. This is a numbers matching car with the original correct number engine. VW birth certificate to prove it.
The car was very dry with no rust and only needed a driver’s side ¼ panel and door, I found a nos door and replaced the panel with original vw metal. The pan off restoration of the body included complete blasting of all body parts with multiple coats of primer. The original Java Green Single Stage acrylic enamel paint was applied and buffed to perfection.
The pans were replaced with heavy gauge pans. The complete frame was then restored and reassembled. Everything new in the factory correct front end. The original transmission was refurbished and shifts perfect. The original matching numbers engine was completely rebuilt with rebuilt crank, new pistons and heads. The original carb was restored by Volksbitz, the fuel pump by Vintage Works. I wanted to use the original carb, fuel pump to keep the engine as correct as possible.
The front floor mat is vw numbered and sewn to the correct German Square Weave Carpet. Both front and rear floor mats are original vw. Seat covers are one year only material purchased from old stock. All gauges and speedometer have been restored and calibrated. The ignition switch is nos. The wiper motor as well as the switch, wiper blades and pivots were nos purchased from Donald West. New Headliner. All windows are correct with vw logos or manufacture for vw. Pop out rear windows are factory. All new rubber everywhere including nos front trunk and engine lid rubber. I was lucky to find some nos java green fender beading and it looks stunning, no painted stuff to make it look correct. 98% of the bolts, screws, nuts, washers are vw.
This is as correct to a showroom restoration as I could get, that’s what I like. I spent a lot of time and effort making sure things were as close to factory without loosing my mind. If your looking for an Original Factory Showroom Correct 1964 VW Beetle for long term investment this is your vehicle. I have a local VW mechanic that has looked this car over and can attest to it’s correctness. Please let me know of questions you might have.
