1963 Volkswagen Beetle - Classic deluxe

Let’s get all of my pet peeves about ebay out of the way right off the bat. This is a no reserve auction, so bid to win. I won’t end the auction early at any price, so stop asking and bid to win. The car isn’t listed locally, so don’t worry about me ending the auction early and you missing out. If you’re the winning bidder and you follow thru on payment, this amazing car will be yours. The pictures were taken yesterday, so the car is sold as shown in these pictures. Last but not least and the worst one in my opinion, no shill bidding will occur with this auction. I actually love ebay and I believe the no reserve auction with a .99 cent starting price is how it should be done.

Now the description:This is a very solid, all matching numbers, mostly original paint, still 6 volt, 1963 vw bug that I bought 7 ½ years ago. She’s been my daily driver for 7 to 8 months of the year all those years. When I bought her she’d been sitting unused for many years, so I replaced a ton of parts to make her road worthy. Whenever possible I used the best quality parts that I could find. I’ll try to list everything I replaced, but I’m sure I’ll forget something.

New Parts:

Clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing

Link and King Pins

Front wheel bearings

Master cylinder

Wheel cylinders

Rubber brake hoses

Front/rear brake shoes

Voltage regulator (6 volt bosch ouch on what that cost)

Steering components minus the steering box. i.e. tie rod, ends, steering dampener,etc were replaced

Transmission seals, axle boots, and transmission mounts.

Rims and tires.The 5 original paint rims/hub caps will be included if the new owner wants them.

Wolfsburg West seat covers and seat pads were installed last summer

Rebuilt parts:

6 volt generatorSolex 28 pict carb (done by keifernet)

Starter

Speedo rebuild by a professional just over a year ago. (not original to car)

Body:

The pictures and video don’t lie. This car is extremely solid in all the areas that most old beetles are not. The heater channels are rock solid. The wheel wells are also solid.I’m amazed at how solid the rear bumper supports are. Even the jack points are very solid. She took a hit in the right front many years ago and the repair can be seen near the jack mount. The rear floor pans have rusted thru and have been given the typical low buck repair. I bought new rear pan halves years ago, but I was having so much fun driving the car, I never got around to welding them in. The replacement pans are cheap and flimsy, but I’ll include them with the car. The car has rear pop out windows that are original to the car and they both open and close without any issues. I had a local glass shop cut me a new windshield a few years ago and then I installed it using a Wolfsburg West rubber seal and chrome ring. I have a new WW rubber seal and chrome ring for the rear window as well.

Engine:

The current motor is a 1964 40hp. It was rebuilt by a previous owner and it runs smooth and pulls well.This auction will also include the cars original 40hp motor as well. The original motor is just a long block, but I have documentation that proves it’s the original motor. I don’t know if the original motor can be rebuilt and put back into service, but it’s not frozen up and it’s been stored indoors since it was removed from the car.What documentation you may ask? When I bought the car the original owner’s manual was in the glove box. The owner’s manual had a page for the dealer to write in the cars vin # and serial # of all the major components. I’ve verified the numbers with what’s installed in the car. The front beam and transmission match what’s written in the owner’s manual. The owner’s manual also lists the name and address of the original owner. When was the last time you saw a 50 year old car with that kind of hand written documentation?

Interior:

I installed new Wolfsburg West seat covers and seat pads last summer. I did the job myself, so you shouldn’t expect them to look like a professional did the installation. The original headliner is falling down and needs replaced/repaired. Almost all of the original Beryl green interior pieces are still in place. They’re well worn, but it’s rare to see them all together still. I installed new Wolfsburg West 3 point seatbelts front and back shortly after I got her road worthy

Extras: Ihave a pile of new and used parts that the winning bidder can have if they so desire. The original German roof, seen in the last picture, IS NOT included in this auction. However, the winning bidder may purchase the rack for an additional $450. The rack is straight and matches the cars patina perfectly. It’s missing a few of the wooden slats, but that also matches the weathered look and feel of this car.
