All original with exception of a previous owner's repaint in original color. The old lady that had pampered this Karmann Ghia all its life called her Rose. Rose was garage kept and maintained very well with service records documenting 78,000 original mileson the stock drive train with no leaks. The tires are less than a year old, and the battery was recently replaced along with new rear shocks and brake pads.
Some of Rose's strengths are a very straight body with even gaps around all the opening panels. Rose's nose is untouched, never even being slightly tapped which goes without saying that Rose has been looked after all her life.
Rose spent her entire life in sunny, dry Southern California and when not out touring, she was well kept in the garage. Since she was stored inside, her dash and rubber window gaskets are supple and not cracked, and there is even a sticker from 1972 on the outside of the windshield. Rose is rust free with original floor pans, and still retains her shiny chrome.
A few of the specifications and details about Rose include the stock, original 1600 dual port engine coupled with the rare factory optional autostick in excellent working condition. The original vacuum advance distributor and German Solex Carburetor are still in place too.
Everything works as it should from factory including all lights, hazards, reverse lights, blinkers, tail lights, license lights, headlights - hi beam and low beam, horn, door locks, and latches for the bonnet and deck lid, 2 speed wipers, and wiper spray mister, as well as telescoping antenna, heater, defrosters-front and back, as well as stock radio with factory speaker, including the clock, gas gauge, speedometer and odometer, all with illumination. That is a long list, and even more rare to see intact on a 44 year old car in excellent working order. The service records show how well Rose was cared for. After rounding the bends, the blinkers cancel out automatically and the wipers always reset as designed.
The interior is in excellent condition and stock with original felt carpet, basket weave seat upholstery and black door panels. There is one area by the passenger's foot rest where the carpet is worn through, but other than that, it shows well. The white perforated headliner is very nice, without stains or rips. The dash is original with no cracks along with the knee pad finishing off the beautiful flat instrument panel. The interior light comes on when the doors are opened and shut. All the gauges work as they should keeping accurate measurements.
Overall for a 44 year old car, Rose is well preserved and in very nice condition giving the new owner years of enjoyment while becoming even more rare as the appreciating classic she is. As nice and original as this car is, one thing to realize is that Rose has not been restored, and is in as close to original form as possible, albeit original paint. After many years and miles of driving, Rose is an exceptionally stock example of an iconic design, but does have minor wear and tear such as some door dings and little chips here and there. To the purest, this is a find since no one has disassembled Rose, keeping her intact as the German's designed and built by hand 44 years ago. Knowing this, Rose can be driven for many years of enjoyment, and later restored one day if that is the new owner's preference.
Rose comes with her original jack, spare tire, owners manual, tool kit, radio instructions, and two sets of keys.
If one should ever desire to make this a 4 speed this Karmann Ghia, Rose has the clutch tube from the factory already installed making the change over very simple.
Rose is reasonably priced with a low reserve. I'm happy to setup a viewing and will assist with shipping out of Long Beach if you are international for $300 extra to cover the rental to tow and the time and fuel to get the car to the port with a good cleaning to help with customs.
