1967 Volkswagen Type III Type 3 Fastback

"Old Tech" 1967 VW Fastback performance rally car. Originally raced in the 68 and 69 NORRA Baja 1000 races by Don Pike for Kendon VW. Re-built as an SCCA Pro-Rally Open class car in 1985 by current owner, Rod Koch. Has since, continuously evolved and competed in over 60 Pro-Rally's with only 7 dnf. Placed 5th in class in the 1988 Baja 1000. First in class in the 1999 and 2000 Laughlin International Rally's. Retired after the 2002 rally season except for an occasional Rally Cross and car shows.

2600 cc Type 4 motor(78x103)-170hp. Dual DelOrto 45 carbs and with a carburetor air-filter system that will let you run Baja and back again without motor damage. Berg 5-speed built by Weddle engineering, close ratio gears with a ZF Limited Slip. Type 4 CV joints, 4 wheel disc brakes, ZF Porsche steering box, dual shocks on each wheel, Sway-a-Way suspension components. Electric and oil heaters, 12v defroster motor, Corbeau seats, Terratrip 2 odometer. Full roll cage connected to key suspension points. The important thing, is that all these modifications have been proven extremely reliable through real competition. Currently licensed in California, very street legal, and with 9-1 compression ratio, runs OK on 91 octane. Signed copies of Rod Koch's two books on racing the early years of the Baja 1000 and Pro-Rally's, go with the car!

Eligible for the NORRA Mexican 1000 Rally, Hemming's Great Race, and the Endurance Rally Association's long distance events.
