1972 Triumph Other --

In early 1963, Standard-Triumph commissioned Giovanni Michelotti (notable for designing many models including several for Ferrari & Maserati) to design a GT version of the new Spitfire line. The fastback design, although aesthetically pleasing, was too heavy for the 1147cc 4 cylinder output and the model was shelved. However, the prototype was adopted by the Triumph racing program and its aerodynamics resulted in great success (1st in class at 24-hour Lemans). After re-evaluation the GT6 was born with the Michelotti... designed body and the more powerful 6-cylinder Triumph Vitesse engine with a marketing campaign to talk about the racing success. The 1972 Triumph GT6 MK3 offered here is an outstanding in everyway. This car was passionately owned and was selectively restored and highly detailed to compete in the Triumph National Convention 2017 where it was judged in stock class and earned gold status. The engine compartment and the underside were left un restored and preserved to show off its outstanding original structure. All the work was done by Triumph rescue and this car is considered one of the top 5 GT6's in the world. The car is restored to its original color combination of Sapphire Blue over Black interior. Factory fitted equipment included: Heater, dual circuit brakes, laminated windscreen, inertia rear seat belts, 155 tubeless tyres, and a miles per hour speedometer. The car was built on June 29 1972 and was shipped from Liverpool England aboard the vessel "Atlantic Cinderella" Today at 56925 original miles, this car remains in awesome condition mechanically and cosmetically. The motor runs strong in all gears, suspension is tight, the car demonstrates great handling capabilities and the overdrive engages flawlessly. In short, it is a complete blast to drive. The car comes fully documented with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, the original Owners Handbook, the Vintage Triumph Register 2017 National Convention Gold Award, a hand written memoir "My First Rodeo" giving the back story of the previous owners journey on how the car was found, why and how he selected the areas of the car to restore and areas left untouched, and recounts of the national completion, judging sheets, a mountain of receipts nearly (50,000 dollars worth) of the restoration process, manuals, articles etc. The Triumph GT6's have recently fallen in favor with vintage performance enthusiasts. Their classic GT styling is timeless, and while British sports cars are usually of the open-air variety, the GT6's design and performance fiercely competes with any car in its class that all of Europe had to offer. They are high on the collectability scale and are poised to increase in value. This car offers no disappointments.
