Description:

1963 Triumph Spitfire

For Sale: 1963 Triumph Spitfire MK1 with rare factory "bubble" hardtop.

This is the first year of the Spitfire. There are not many of these early body style Spitfires left, let alone a first year '63 car. This car has the 1147cc with a DCOE side draft Weber carburetor, header, balanced and polished crank and rods, hot cam and all kinds of period correct, cool parts.

I have touched every nut and bolt on this car in the last 18 months. The frame, suspension, steering, brakes, engine, transmission, differential, everything. I've driven the car up and down many Colorado roads, including Mount Evans where I just didn't have the ground clearance to make it past Summit Lake (13,800 Ft elevation). Good times. I guess what I'm saying is this car has been completely gone through, and is ready to drive.

Engine: 1147cc, with a fresh rebuild on an engine that was had a great amount of high end work done to it at one point. The crankshaft and rods are balanced and polished. The main and rod bearings are new. The pistons are new. The camshaft and lifters are new. It has a rebuilt side draft Weber DCOE carburetor, header, turbo muffler, electronic ignition and new electric fuel pump. Wired with a GM "one wire alternator".

Transmission: 4 speed manual. It has been disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt. Thrust washers replaced, new seals, output bearings and new rubber mounts.

Differential: Disassembled, cleaned, checked, and resealed. All rubber mounts replaced.

Frame: Cleaned, inspected and painted.

Suspension: completely gone through with many parts and bushings replaced as needed. The known to be weak stock wheel studs and lug nuts were all upgraded to larger, and readily available parts.

Brakes: Master cylinder and wheel cylinders rebuilt or replaced as needed.

The body work and paint job that you see in the pictures was probably done in the 90s (?) It is in great condition and shines up real nicely. I would rate the condition as a very good driver as it sits today but could easily be made ready for any paint scheme you might want to put on it.

I have the early bubble hardtop, with a plexiglass rear window in it. This top is a rare piece.

Gauges and dash panel are new. It has aftermarket white face gauges that look real nice with the aluminum dash panel. It needs a speedo cable replaced.

Interior: The seats that are in it are out of a Toyota MR2, that I modified to fit in the smaller space. They are made to accept the over the shoulder race harness seat belts. Both seats have 5 point harness seat belts. There is a roll bar that has a forward brace that goes into the passenger footwell. There is basically no carpet in the car except for the transmission tunnel which has some black carpet to help cut some noise and heat. The doors have the same carpet in place of the interior panels, same with the divider to the trunk space. It has a clean and simple look. There are no side windows in the car. There is no heater in the car. The trunk has some padding and carpet on the floor.
