1964 Triumph TR4

1964 Triumph TR4
Three years ago I received a phone call from a very senior citizen here in Florida. His garage housed a 1964 Triumph TR4 which had not seen daylight in more than 20 years and it was his desire to sell the vehicle to someone who would restore it as new; although he never found the time to do the job himself he was very fond of the vehicle and discovered that I was the correct purchaser for the Triumph … apparently my reputation had somehow reached him and I agreed to do what he wished.

Following a very careful inspection I was happy to discover that the vehicle was basically very sound but crying to be completely refurbished to regain its old glory. Having just completed a different project I was eager to get started again and this was the perfect opportunity.

The first job was to remove the body, or “tub,” and inspect the frame, front end, rear axle, brakes, etc. The frame was in great condition other than some surface rust and dirt which was easily taken care of. New brake and fuel lines were installed following the new paint and from there all brakes were replaced with new including new master and slave cylinders. While the body was off the frame was the perfect time to completely rebuild the front-end and install new shocks. The rear-end was serviced as were the rear shock absorbers. A new Tourist Trophy stainless steel exhaust system, which retains that wonderful Triumph sound, was installed.

The engine went on the stand and was completely rebuilt and painted. The cylinder head was professionally inspected and rebuilt as necessary including hardened valve seats to accommodate today’s gasoline. Following this work the transmission was completely disassembled with whatever parts needing replacing taken care of and then followed with a fresh coat of paint.

The body panels were sent to the best restoration shop to be taken down to bare metal, painted in the Triumph’s original BRG, and dry-fitted back on the frame prior to the final assembly. This very labor- intensive work took a long time but came back exactly as I expected … perfect!

The interior received a wood dash with a new dash pad cover, new lower pads, new glove box, and new control knobs. Both seats, door panels, and carpeting have been replaced with new. The black convertible top is also brand new.

This Triumph TR4 has retained almost all its original hard parts, all of which were re-built and painted. The front and rear bumpers and over-riders are original to the vehicle but professionally re-chromed. It is my belief that a vintage vehicle’s restoration should be accomplished with as many original parts as possible … while many parts are available new, the majority come from China and do not meet up with my expectations and demands.

Be assured that this vehicle has been restored correctly with every nut and bolt sanded, primed, and painted. The vehicle drives and handles beautifully, has absolutely no fluid leaks, runs cool under all driving conditions, and is a “ready-to-go” vehicle. Whether for your personal collection, or as a weekend driver, the new owner will not be disappointed with this beautiful TR4.

My terms of sale are very simple. The auction has a reserve that is very reasonable and fair but will not be disclosed out of fairness to all interested parties. A $500 deposit will be required immediately upon a successful sale and this is refundable should an inspection by the buyer, or his representative, not be acceptable. The inspection must be performed within one week following the receipt of deposit. The balance of the purchase price must be via a wire transfer to my account. I will assist with delivery of the vehicle anywhere in the world but will not participate in the cost of transportation.

Please contact me should you have any questions or concerns regarding this vehicle. Should you wish additional pictures, a video of the build process, or a copy of the Heritage Trust Certificate, they will happily be provided via e-mail. I will answer you quickly, accurately, and politely. Thank you for your interest and I look forward to earning your business.
