Description:

1985 Toyota Supra

Summary: Clean west-coast car that runs like a high-compression racer. Very reliable, but VERY responsive, and very fast. Nitrous. Listen to the video and see the extras below. Cash, or will trade for 2014 or later Prius with cash adjustments as necessary. Ebay gets their cut as though full cash sale for each vehicle.
Search Ebay "advanced" and you'll see that these P-Types sell for as much as $13,500.

This car spent 25 years in Seattle, maintained by a Boeing Aircraft engineer. It has never seen the snow or salted streets. There is the tiniest bit of surface rust near the sunroof, but nowhere else, and no rust at all down below.
Stored / started regularly for the last five years. Never driven in the winter.
This is a very clean car. The interior is very good. After storing in the winter the engine always starts immediately. Power everything. Retractable headlights. Power sunroof. Multi-adjustable air-pump seats.
Very quick and extremely light on its feet when you wind it up. It pulls smoothly up to 6500 RPM and with the big straight six sounds terrific. There is immediate power--no lag--and when you take your foot off the gas you get immediate high-compression braking--enough for the tires to squeal. It's like a go-cart with a three-liter straight six. The Mark III and IV turbos are laggy, spongey, heavy boats by comparison, though of course they have the extreme top end. '84s and earlier don't have the compression or power, and don't wind up as well.
Don't ask me how I know, but this Supra is still accelerating and rock solid at 150 MPH. And that is without the cool high-tech nitrous system that the aircraft engineer installed. See mods below.
I've owned 7 Supras, including Mark I - IV, and for many of us in this "club" the best of the bunch is always going to be the '85. When I drive up from downtown Chicago after work, I'll sometimes have five other drivers tooting their horns and flashing me the "EIGHTY-FIVE" sign with a big smile. This car turns heads.
Drive train is great. Engine excellent. All synchros in the transmission excellent and the five-speed shifting is super tight.
This car is seriously fun to drive--like you're ready for the race track. It winds up beautifully, and when you punch it in the power band the big six leaps forward. With the race suspension, the high compression, and the super-light steering it is extremely responsive.
I used to drive it regularly, and even though it is a tiger, it was always super reliable. For example, its been driven across the country and is a dream in the mountains. No oil leaks. No hydraulic problems. Original 5MGE engine in great shape: 2.8, straight-six, extra main bearing, 12-valve (2 valves per cylinder, giant intake valves) DOHC. Factory top speed is 143 MPH. This car has not been abused, and they run forever anyway. I myself only let it out the one time at five in the morning, and stopped a little while after the speedometer was pegged. I let it out this morning to take video for the ad.
I will consider a trade for a 2014 or later Prius (with price adjustments as necessary); Ebay gets their cash percentage.
Humorous note: my son and daughter loved this car so much they each bought 1985 Supras themselves when they moved out, so there are currently three 1985s in the family.
Extras:
It has been run only on exclusively pure synthetic oil for the decade I've owned it.
Custom headers so the exhaust breathes really well. Great for the top end.
Custom metal intake and racing filter, so the head breathes well. Great for the top end.
Four Tokico Blue racing shock absorbers.
Custom aluminum rocker covers. Blue racing ignition leads.
In-cockpit manually adjustable fuel/air mixture computer with multiple RPM bands.
FOUR custom sway-bars, including oversize front sway bar, custom rear sway bar, custom under-the-hood crown sway bar, and a removable custom rear-deck crown sway bar (very cool!).
Suspension is lowered slightly. Looks cool. Handles great. Can be easily restored to full height if desired.
Theft prevention system in addition to the burglar alarm.
Nitrous Oxide bottle installed by the aircraft engineer (see photos). Dashboard activation with a solenoid power switch. The guy I bought it from said it makes the car crazy fast, but being in Chicago, and a single parent usually with kids, I never actually ran the nitrous myself. The car is *plenty* fast enough without it. If you buy the car, have fun AFTER you drive away. Comes with a full nitrous bottle.
Custom throaty exhaust with pleasing deep muscle-car sound.
Basically everything works. All exceptions are listed below.
I have a newer AM/FM radio with CD player in it, and removable face, but I have the original radio in the garage if you want it.
The cockpit heater core needs to be replaced. You can't use the heater until you replace or repair it. NOTE!
There is a missing clip on the nylon speedometer gear in the transmission, so the speedometer does not work. However, when my mechanic reaches a finger in through the transmission inspection port and pushes the nylon gear forward, the speedometer works for a few months. He said a clip is missing.
I have not charged the A/C in years, but it used to work fine.
There may be one of the small air hoses connected incorrectly in the choke circuit; midway between cold and running temperature it runs slightly rougher than its usual sewing-maching straight-six smooth self for a minute or two.
The Yokahama AVID S/T radial tires are getting old.
The power sunroof always worked fine, but it hasn't been opened in four years, so we won't be trying it until it is your car.
If you really get on the gas and wind up the engine, the check engine light will come on. It has always been this way and it is my understanding that it is a sensor misreporting oxygen content (?) because of the custom header configuration. There is no effect except the light is temporarily on.
The burglar alarm has to be set with the key, not the inside lock button.
The car looks good and the original silver paint is still shiny and looks good, but it is not perfect. Note that the right front fender, headlight and spoiler were repainted at some point, and that paint has faded somewhat. See the photos including small surface rust patch near sunroof.
The car has only been driven about 300 miles in the last five years, so consider there may be some small maintenance items that come up. For example, the windshield wipers have not been changed in a very long time.
THIS CAR IS CLEAN. You will be very happy with it. It is the real deal. It turns heads. Girls like it. You'll have to have some discipline to stay off the gas pedal because driving it is addictive.
