EBAY FEEDBACK
Ebay feedback is extremely important . I have received xlnt comments from others whom have bought cars from us and most of the cars we listed have sold prior to auctions scheduled end date to buyers that used the Buy It Now feature. I am not a dealer . I am merely selling off a large collection of cars we have had for years and some of our relatives and friends cars that don't have an Ebay account, however, I am a mechanic and professional vintage car restorer and some of the cars I had sold for world record prices.
VEHICLE VALUE
These vehicles are fairly rare and one just sold on Ebay only 30 miles from me for $3000.00 and it was not streetable and would not pass the California emissions test and was not registered and the buyer had to also pay 8% sales tax on it.
PRICE
The reserve is less than the Buy It Now price.
I priced it to sell and also have it listed in a local ad on another site . Feel free to send me a message with an offer if you don't like the buy it now price and if I like your offer, it's yours, however, I'm confident it will sell for what I am asking or close to it.
FACTORY OPTIONS
As far as I can tell, this has every possible option that Toyota offered and every single one of them works and are listed below.
POWER STEERING
POWER WINDOWS
POWER SUNROOF WITH SUN SHADE
POWER DOOR LOCKS
POWER DISC BRAKES
TILT STEERING WHEEL
CRUISE CONTROL
ALUMINUM RIMS
4 WHEEL DRIVE WITH HIGH AND LOW GEARS
CLUTCH PEDAL SAFETY SWITCH BYPASS BUTTON
TOW PACKAGE WITH CLASS III TOW HITCH
RADIO - It was removed so it could be repaired but has been misplaced. If I find it, it will go with the vehicle but no guarantee I will find it
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
These vehicles are little more than a light duty truck, therefore, they ride like light duty truck and not like a 1959 Cadillac. This being said, the ride is definitely not overly rough, and on a smooth road, the ride is very smooth. This is the first year of the coil type rear suspension and other suspension upgrades that made them ride much smoother than the previous years.
It runs and drives very well for this type of vehicle with this amount of miles on it, and it and imo it is a lot of fun to drive, but I personally wouldn't want to drive any 4 wheel drive off road type vehicle on a daily basis.
It feels pretty solid and not loose and worn out like some of these get if they have been off roaded much. The steering is very tight and responsive. The engine, trans, clutch, and brakes all work as they should.
As far as the engine goes, this type of engine is exactly the same as the one Toyota put in some of their higher performance cars so it is not quite as torquey as some others are but it certainly does well enough for its intended purpose. On the other hand, it has a fairly high 5800 rpm red line, and I can attest to the fact that will definitely rev farther than that with no problem whatsoever if you want it to, lol.
ENGINE
The engine runs perfectly. It is quiet with no unusual noises and it does not smoke when you start it or when it is idling or when you are accelerating, therefore, it never smokes. It also runs smoothly with no unusual vibrations and never misses. These particular engines frequently run for over 300,000 miles with no major service. If you do a Google search on them you will easily find this out. One service which should be performed around every 50,000 miles is a valve adjustment. If this is not done it is possible for the valves to eventually burn but this is a very rare occurrence.
It immediately starts right up whether the engine is hot or cold and the cold start high idle circuit functions properly.
SIMPLE ENGINE PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS
If you want a little more power, you can simply increase the amount of fuel the engine uses by adjusting the fuel mixture wheel. This simple change will make a moderate and definitely noticeable increase in power but it will reduce mileage slightly.
TRANSMISSION
This is one of the best transmission designs on the planet. They are virtually indestructible and as with the engine, these trannies will frequently go for over 300,000 miles. This being said, 99% of these transmissions have the exact same anomaly which is a slight whine at idle and thru 3rd gear. There is basically no whine in 4th or 5th. This transmission is no different than the others in that regard but it has zero affect on how it shifts. This transmission shifts as good as it did when it was new. The synchros never grind when shifting and it never pops out of gear upon deceleration. It also just had the fluid changed to GL5 rated synthetic.
4 WHEEL DRIVE
It works perfectly and is easy to shift in and out of 4 wheel drive.
CLUTCH
The clutch works properly and engages smoothly with no noise or chatter and it never slips. It has a higher performance pressure plate than stock so the clutch pedal requires just a little more effort to depress than a stock clutch does. It is not a big difference but it is enough of a difference that I want to mention it and say that if you are stuck in stop and go traffic every day for long periods of time, your leg might eventually get a little tired.
STEERING
There is zero free play in the steering and it feels just as tight as they did when they were new. Even with the large tires it has on it the steering wheel can easily be turned with just one hand.
SUSPENSION
The bushings likely have some wear but not enough to affect performance and there is no unusual creaks or rattles when going over bumps etc so it still seems to be in reasonable condition. The stock shocks were replaced with higher quality nitrogen filled shocks at some point.
BRAKES
They work excellent and don't squeal. The brake pedal does not creep down at a stop and they don't need to be pumped to stop and there are no leaks in the system. They also easily stop the vehicle with only light pressure on the pedal. The front brake rotors are as smooth as glass with no gouges or ripples etc.
BODY CONDITION
There is absolutely zero rust thru anywhere and it has always been in the California desert area. The paint looks like it is all original so there is nothing to hide. The doors line up very well. There are a few small thumb size dings around it and a very small dent behind the right front corner light. There are several small chips on it. It was extremely when I took the photos but the paint still has a decent shine when it is cleaned up so it is not terrible looking by any means.
INTERIOR
The dash is cracked on top just like every single other one of these is. The front seats are torn so they have budget seat covers. The rear seats and door panels and headliner are decent.
TIRE CONDITION AND THE AFFECT OF LARGE TIRES ON PERFORMANCE
These are nearly new Goodyear Wrangler 31x10.5-15's and have a date code of 0215 which means they were made the second week of 2015 . They were purchased in late 2015 and only have around 600 miles on them and show absolutely zero wear . Since they have only been on the vehicle for around 1 1/2 years, they are also not dry cracked.
Now, I am probably the only person that will tell you the truth about these vehicles and using big tires on them so here it is . First and foremost, it is simply ridiculous to put the large tires on them like this one has because they bog the engine down a fair amount which reduces overall performance . They have the same affect as using really tall gears which also makes the spacing between the gears farther so when you rev it to 5000 rpm then shift it, it drops to around 2800 rpm which is really a little too much if you plan to use it in town much or use it as a daily driver . On the positive side, these vehicles will probably do 140 mph with these big tires.
I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that every single one of these vehicles acts exactly the same with big tires, and the ones that have the tiny lame 4 cylinder engines are far worse, therefore, imo, if you do much driving around town or take very long drives on the freeway, I suggest you install the stock size tires . This being said, Walmart sells Goodyear tires in the stock size for around $65.00 a piece and it would be easy to sell the current tires for $300.00 on the internet so it would almost be a straight across trade, in fact, I might even buy the tires off it for $200.00 if you wanted to get stock size tires.
STATE EMISSIONS TEST AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
In California, the check engine light must come ON with the engine OFF and the ignition key in the RUN position. The light must then go off within around 1 seconds after the engine is started and must remain off for the duration of the test. The vehicles computer must also have no current codes or pending codes. This vehicle met all these requirements and passed the California emissions test, HOWEVER, the check engine light does occasionally come on and reads a code 51/52 (knock sensor) if the engine is lugged down fairly low which is not they way most people drive anyway so the light would rarely, if ever come on. This anomaly is partially caused by the larger than stock tires lugging the engine down when accelerating from a stop and it probably won't ever happen with stock size tires. Anyway, if this ever occurs, all you have to do to fix it is turn the engine off then remove the positive battery cable for around 15 seconds then reinstall it. This resets the light and clears the code from the computer guaranteed and is exactly how the factory designed the reset process to work.
CARFAX AND AUTOCHECK VEHICLE HISTORY REPORTS
These are similar vehicle history systems but Autocheck sometimes lists info that Carfax does not and it is the system most commonly used by dealers. I have the Autocheck report and there are no accidents shown.
REGISTRATION
If you live in California, the registration fee itself will cost around $200.00 for the first year. It will be around 1/2 of that for the next year.
