1990 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81

PLEASE IGNORE ABOVE VIN#. The correct VIN is HDJ81-0002695. This is the VIN assigned to the vehicle by the state of Arizona. This coincides with the VIN listed on the title as well as the frame of the vehicle. This disclaimer is required by eBay staff to protect buyers. This truck comes will full documentation dating back to it's original purchase in Japan, as well as full customs importation documents.

Imported from Japan approximately four months ago with 164,000 miles. I'm a huge Toyota enthusiast, and enjoy restoring classic Toyota 4x4's in my spare time. The truck has been gone through completely while under my care, both mechanically and cosmetically. It's important to understand that a few cosmetic flaws still remain, and will be disclosed below.

You are bidding on a fully loaded 1990 Toyota Land Cruiser HDJ81 VX-Limited with factory electronic locking differentials, electronic winch, rear tire carrier, and refrigerator/icemaker. This truck was handpicked for it's considerably rust free body. It's important to understand that very few, if any, Land Cruisers that come through Japanese Auto Auctions are 100% rust free. The vast majority of trucks exported, come with a hefty amount of body and frame rust. This one is an exceptional example of a low rust HDJ81.

The truck has had a complete exterior respray utilizing DuPont materials. As the door jams were in near meticulous condition, I saw no purpose in having these resprayed at nearly double the cost. All exterior trim was removed in order to be painted, no corners were cut. Now, the truck has received three coats of clear coat with the plan being to have the top coat removed during the color sanding process. As I imagine the future owner may have plans to take this vehicle off-road, I saw no purpose in taking this step. For all I know, the future owner may incur some light surface scratches as a result of offroading. They would then be able to remove these scratches and have essentially a brand new surface.

The interior has been completely detailed and cleaned. The majority of surfaces in the truck look, and feel, like a new vehicle. The seats are in great condition, as they've been under seat covers since new. Brand new, custom digital fit Weathertech floor liners were installed front and rear. A new Jensen Navigation unit with Bluetooth was also installed. The sound is run through a 4-channel 700 watt amp, ending up in aftermarket door speakers. All exterior windows have received Suntek Ceramic tint; 35% on the rear and sides, and 55% on the front passenger and driver windows. The truck also features keyless entry and remote start; very handy for cold-weather climates. The truck comes with two sets of fobs and two keys. It's also important to point out that the boost gauge was fitted merely as a monitoring device. The truck is completely stock and unmolested underneath the hood. I'll let the next owner decide which power enhancement route they'd like to take.

Exterior plastics have been repainted using top of the line SEM trim paint. The JDM headlights have been replaced with high quality DEPO glass lens LHD headlights. They've also been retrofitted with a full HID projector setup, featuring 55 watt DDM Tuning D2S projectors and 4300k bulbs. The light output is simply stunning and focused below oncoming driver's eyes-- making it very safe. The original, faded JDM wheels were replaced with near mint- condition 4th generation Toyota 4runner wheels. New Toyo Open Country ATII's in the 265/75/16 size were fitted. The 16" wheels allowed for modern brakes from a late model FJZ80/100 series to be fitted. This means new OEM rotors, OEM pads, and new calipers! Braking is hugely improved over the stock HDJ81.

The truck has received a massive amount of maintenance in the last four months. The infamous "Big End Bearings" aka BEB's were replaced per factory service manual specifications with high quality Taiho bearings and new OEM stretch bolts. Both front knuckles were completely rebuilt with high quality components. In addition, the wheel and trunion bearings were replaced with Koyo bearings. The tie rod ends, relay rod ends, and lower control arm bushings were replaced with top end Moog components. All four shocks were replaced with brand new OEM units, as well as new pillow bushings. The oil was changed to Shell Rotella Synthetic 10w 30 and brand new OEM oil filter. A new OEM fuel filter was also installed, after the injectors were isolated and ran using LiquiMoly Diesel Purge. Additionally, the cooling system has been flushed and replaced with Toyota Red LLC, in addition to a new OEM thermostat being fitted.

My goal with this truck was to create a superb base for a serious overlander. It was NOT to create a serious offroad beast, weighed down with a pallet full of aftermarket goodies. I instead sought to revive this truck and prepare it for a life of faithful touring. The fun part of owning this truck begins now. The future owner will be able to outfit to their liking, and then conquer whatever this world can throw at them. The truck also has full service records, dating back to 1990, as well as full owners manual and factory service manual. Additionally, the truck is fully legal and registered here in Arizona. I've seen no issues with owners attempting to register their trucks in their states, but of course standard disclaimer applies: it's up to the buyer to secure registration within their own state.

I am in the process of importing a few other Japanese 4x4's and am looking to make room in my rather modest garage. Hence the selling of this fabulous truck. In the interest of full disclosure, there are a few cosmetic issues still remaining with the truck. The automatic shift knob has worn down and could use replacing. The dash cover has a bulge from where a repair was attempted. The rear window frame has a small rust spot where water has pooled over the years. The front passenger interior door has rust along the bottom interior edge. This rust isn't noticeable unless you're on your knees however, and was actually caused by a leaf that had lodged itself in the drain holes on the door. The leaf has been removed, and the drain holes now function as intended.

The truck, however, is near flawless mechanically. Transmission shifts are firm and confident. Power is plenty, and smoke is at a minimum. Steering has minimal effort, and is smooth.
