1986 Subaru GLThis is a 1986 Subaru wagon in very good condition. The interior is in excellent shape. The exterior is in very good shape with only a few small rust spots - mostly above the rear wheel well, and some splotching on the hood. There is a small damaged spot to the front bumper which was there when I bought it last autumn (2017). The dent on the rear driver side happened while the Subaru was parked in a parking lot last winter. Someone pulled out too close while I was away and did not leave their information. The point is that it was virtually a "no speed" impact while another car was backing up and turning their wheel to far.
I bought the car last fall and do not have time to give it the shine it needs to be a very cool vintage Subaru. I am hoping someone who likes these wagons wins the bid. These are very cool vehicles and I wish they still made them.
The engine runs excellent. Fires right up, no issues what so ever. The car has had regular oil changes. There is a very small leak in the usual spots of oil pan gasket, maybe a valve cover. This is because the gaskets are still original and have never been changed. At 119,000 miles and 32 years, that is to be expected. I do not add oil between oil changes, and the mechanic says it is down less than 1/4 of a quart after 3,000 miles until the next oil change. Last autumn, and about 4,000 miles ago, I bought new tires and had the alignment done. The alignment went very well with only one small adjustment in the rear axle they were not able to do because they did not want to heat the section to break a little rust. However, the alignment as is was not far off at all.
The only other quirks are the original radio is not properly hooked up (I bought the car with it that way), and the rear passenger window motor or switch does not work. You can get new motors for that for about $30-40, or find a switch online. It is always one or the other. Also, the ESC light is on, but the mechanic said being a 1986 it is likely as sensor or something of that nature, and not to worry about it. It does not affect the way it runs significantly, if at all.
Would love to keep it, but I have a 1988 GL that needs some love, and decided to sell the better of the two to someone who can appreciate these very cool, highly functional, and getting increasingly hard to find Subaru wagons.
