1954 Studebaker Commander

This 1954 Studebaker Commander Starliner Hardtop has been hidden from view since 1987, when it arrived in sunny Southern California. It was hidden away by a collector for decades, and just now sees the light of day on the very nice concrete floor barn that kept the elements away.

It has that beautiful streamlined Raymond Loewy Styling, beloved of Studebaker collectors and Bonneville salt flats land speed racers alike!

It still has most of it's original Chadron Red paint! I looked it over very closely, and could not find evidence of repaint other than some of the grey primer spots shown in the photos. It is remarkably solid, I checked the floors, rocker panels, and underneath the trunk floor and everything looked good. I did find rust and some dent damage on both front fenders, shown in the photos.

The interior is all original, the dash is in good shape. I would think the new owner would want to re-do the interior just due to age and some wear.

The engine is the proper 1954 232 V-8 with 120 Horsepower, with the correct for 1954 number V282529. It's likely the original engine. I haven't tried to start it, it'll ship as a non-runner.

The transmission was originally a 3 speed manual on the column, but it has a column shifted automatic now. the clutch and brake pedals are the clue it was originally a manual transmission car.

It's a great, well preserved barn find car, and would be a great project for restoration or high performance !
