Description:

1957 Studebaker Golden Hawk

Supercharged Golden Hawks from 1957 and 58 have become very popular in the last few years.

The car offered here is an excellent road ready car that is set up as a driver. If you want a concourse standard car that has had $40 to 80k tipped into it, this car is not for you.

I am selling this car on behalf of a friend of mine. See my other listings for other Studebaker's from this collection.

So if you are not to fussed with having your car judged, but want a great road car that presents well and will give you years of service going forwards, then this car as a good ’10 footer’ is exactly what you are looking for.

a strong running 289 cubic inch V8 motor with working supercharger and coupled to a correct DG type automatic transmission. I do not know if the motor has been rebuilt, but it runs superbly and shifts gear as it should. The car has uprated Turner disc brakes replacing the original drums. There is no power booster and the car stops fine without it. The handling has been smartened up with the addition of an aftermarket rear sway bar. Thankfully, the car has power steering. Mechanically this car has been worked on by the experts who understand Studebaker's, the Thoms Brothers of Studebaker's West in Redwood City.

Original wheels have been replaced with a set of American Racing imitation Halibrand Kidney Bean type polished aluminum mags. The car does have a set of whitewall tires fitted, but these are turned inwards. The wheels can easily be changed to original style wheels with reproduction original hubcaps if you want a more original look. A new aluminum exhaust system has been fitted.

Paint is good with scuffs and marks in spots and is showing some age. It is still very presentable. Body wise the car has had the front drivers and passenger floors patched with new metal. There is evidence of rust repair under the rear quarter panels and in the back corners of the trunk floor.

Chrome is excellent and looks as if most of it has been replated.

The interior has been fully re-trimmed in white with grey seat inserts in the original pattern. Carpets have been replaced and the headliner is original.

I see a lot of road cars listed for sale that don’t seem too reliable when I look at the pictures, but this one is properly prepared and ready to go. Sure, it could use some tidying up in places, but it looks the part and drives really well.

The previous long term San Francisco owner of this car had 15 Studebaker's in his collection, all of which are similar to this car. All cars had nice options,re-trimmed interiors, recognized Studebaker upgrades and had a ton of money piled into them mechanically. All cars were his road cars and were often parked outside his bar in Fisherman's Wharf. They are probably the most photographed Studebaker’s on the planet.
