1965 Shelby Cobra MK III

1965 Superformance Mark III Replica Shelby
This car is a Superformance Mark III replica Shelby. The Superformance Cobra is the only Cobra replica licensed by Shelby to call itself a Cobra. All other replicas must call themselves something else. It is not a garage built kit car. It was manufactured in South Africa and imported into the U S without a motor which is chosen and installed by the buyer. It is a smog exempt SB100 car. SB100 is a DMV law allowing 500 examples per year of small manufacturers to be exempted from smog and crash tests that other makers must qualify for. It has a SB100 vin number in the engine compartment which is issued by California DMV, hence the short VIN number...Cooling system was recently fitted with a better overflow tank...No other mods have been done to the car...A complete list of components is available...Mostly Superformance parts.
This car was purchased in 2008 in Southern California. It was imported in 2004 and was named best of show in a 2004 national Cobra meet in Las Vegas. Previous owner garage kept it as well
It was featured in a 4 page road test against a number of kit cars in 2005 in Kit Car (although not a kit car) magazine and then reviewed favorably by the same magazine in a separate 4 page article.
It was featured in a movie entitled Charlie Valentine, Hit Man Diaries, staring Raymond Barry and Michael Weatherly. They were sitting around the table at a read through of the script and the producers were saying they needed a car for Charlie (Barry). Preferably a Lambo. The actor who owned the car was slated to play a bit part spoke up and said "I have a car in the parking lot you might be interested in" and the rest is history
Its a fun car and usually takes me several extra minutes to leave a gas station because of the questions. A resident here in Murieta while filling up, once told me it was the most beautiful Jaguar she had ever seen. Go figure.
It is a 1965 427 replica, built in 2004, with a 327R Jack Roush motor...430 horsepower...0-60 in about 4.2 seconds...plenty of power to get into trouble with.
Tremec 5 speed transmission
17" inch knockoff wheels
Never abused...Never tracked...Hit 90 once on the speedo...Mostly car shows and occasional picnics and wine runs to Amador County vineyards.
Tires are 200 treadwear rated Nittos I believe...New as of last year and probably has 500 miles on them.
The glovebox as you can see is signed by Carroll Shelby
Vehicle is located in Rancho Murieta, CA. previous owner garage kept it as well.
