1968 Shelby Cobra GT500

Here is an Original 1968 Shelby GT500. This vehicle was purchased as a personal car for one of the owners of Perogie Enterprises in the late 1980's and has been sitting in dry storage since. This is an early 1968 model and is the 155th Shelby produced in that year. It is Lime Gold Metallic ( Green ) with a Black interior. This has been registered in the Shelby Regisrty. It has the original 428 Police Interceptor engine and RUG-S 4 Speed Toploader Manual Transmission both have been totally rebuilt as well as the 3.50 31 spline Nodular case differential. The body was completely disassembled ( engine, transmission, rear housing, complete interior and all of the suspension were removed ) then put on a rotisserie, fully media blasted and inspected for defects. Although the floor pans were fairly solid they had spots of rust so we decided to replace with a one piece full floor pan ( both sides front and back ). Both quarter panels were replaced. The doors, roof, metal taillight panel, shock towers, front and rear engine compartment aprons, cowl, radiator support and frame rails are all originals. The front fenders are clean original Ford units and the trunk floors were replaced with NOS Ford panels. The bottom side of the car was sprayed with with red oxide primer. The rear leaf springs were media blasted and painted and are the originals with the C7ZA stamping numbers in them. The original 9" rear housing was stripped and painted. The original 31 spline axles have been cleaned, checked, detailed and have new bearings. The engine compartment was media blasted painted in etch primer and then in urethane primer ready for paint. The front suspension has new upper and lower control arms, front spring saddles with refinished original front springs. The body is essentially ready for paint with all the hard grunt work already accomplished.

The original 428 Police interceptor short block was sent to Philadelphia Racing Engines for shot peening, cleaning, inspection, tolerance checking, block boring, Magnafluxing, cam bearing installation, crankshaft polishing, rotating assembly balancing and more. NOS Ford C8AE-H 428PI cylinder heads with NOS Ford intake and exhaust valves and 428PI valve springs with new Competition Cam valve spring retainers and keepers were installed . This has an Original Ford 428PI Aluminum 4V intake manifold with the correct C7AE engineering number. The engine was primered with self etch and ready for final paint. Not yet installed is a rebuilt C8OF-D distributor and a rebuilt replacement Carter fuel pump. Also included are the original valve covers and air cleaner assembly.

The 31 spline rear differential has a correct Non-N Nodular case, new 3.50 9" ring and pinion, all new bearings and races and was professionally rebuilt. The case is finished in red oxide primer.

Included with the car is the original fiberglass front valance assembly, an original hood, original header panel, original front fender extensions, original truck deck, original quarter panel extensions, original taillight panel, original upper scoops and one original and one repro side scoops. Some of these will need to be refinished. Also included are new tail light lenses and bezels.

This has the original roll bar and includes the retractors and seat belts.

The 4 speed toploader transmission has ID number RUG-S and was professionally rebuilt. It was completely disassembled and rebuilt with new 2nd gear, 3rd gear, input shaft, all bearings and gaskets and rebuilt synchronizers. Also included is a rebuilt original factory 4 speed shifter assembly with linkage rods, fingers and chrome handle.

Included is the original 4 speed bell housing with C6OA casting number, new lower bell housing cover, complete clutch linkage assembly including clutch equalizer bar, frame and engine mounts, upper and lower clutch rods, big spline clutch fork and NOS clutch fork boots at bell housing and firewall. The stock Ford 11 1/2" 3 finger pressure plate, 1 3/8" input 11 1/2" clutch disc and big spline clutch release bearing have all been rebuilt.

Included is a fully refurbished 140MPH Speedometer and 8000RPM Tachometer dash cluster, with new concours quality underdash and engine compartment wiring harnesses and new taillight wiring harness.

We have the original bucket seats and rear seat cushions which will need to be recovered. It has the complete unrestored fold down rear seat assembly with an uncut rear trap door ( which is very unusual ). Also we have the used original door panels and armrests that will need to be replaced. It includes the factory AM radio and new chrome radio bezel. We have a new full floor console. It has the heater box ( unrestored) with control panel and cables. Included is the factory non-tilt steering column and a fully restored original deluxe Steering Wheel with pad.

This has the six piece motor mount kit, original big block 4 speed cross member, upper and lower radiator brackets, used aftermarket radiator, used power steering pump with mounting and adjusting brackets, Rebuilt original power steering box, nice used original power steering cooler, Rebuilt control valve, Rebuilt Slave Cylinder, used pitman arm and drag link and idler arm and used power steering hoses.

The correct exhaust manifolds are included with a custom built stock looking 2 1/4" transverse exhaust system.

Included are new fuel lines, new brakes lines, a used disc brake power brake booster and master cylinder and a refurbished clutch and brake pedal hanger assembly for the underdash.

We have the door glass and rear window glass. The car will need a new windshield. Included are the rear window mouldings ( which are very nice ) and front windshield mouldings.

Most of the difficult work has already been finished and this will make a beautiful final product. This car can be inspected at our East Windsor, New Jersey location by appointment.
