1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft Racing

Some guys like the process more than the result, while some of us are 100% finish line-oriented. With Cobra replicas, it always comes down to building one from scratch versus buying a finished car. If you fall into the latter category and you're ready to hit the road instead of spending the next two years in the garage instead of out on the road, take a good, long look at this gorgeous blue Cobra.
If you've done any research into Cobra kits, you've undoubtedly heard of Backdraft Racing, one of the preeminent Cobra replica companies in the world and certainly among the most respected. The bottom line on any Cobra is the build quality, and this one was done extremely well and has about 4200 miles since it was finished, so reliability is a non-issue; it's 100% ready to rock today. Bodywork is excellent on this car, and even the best fiberglass bodies need the attention of a pro body man to make them look their best. We don't know what this one looked like when it came out of the molds, but today the panels are straight, gaps are good, and the paint finish has been carefully color sanded and buffed. Panel fit is quite good, and it's obvious someone was watching the details as this one went together. It has exactly the right look with white stripes and a gumball on the hood, red hash marks, wind wings, and the chrome roll bars behind the seats. Nobody will mistake this for anything else.
Inside, there's no question this is a driver's car. Correct low-back black buckets have been installed, giving it a very authentic look. But it's far from minimalist in there, with carpeted floors and a padded dash, as well as a set of plush floor mats to help control heat. A wood-rimmed steering wheel is a modern update on an old Shelby favorite, along with a set of VDO and Auto Meter gauges that have been canted to show their correct needle positions as straight-up so they're easy to read at a glance. Cool! The big B&M shifter manages a C4 3-speed automatic, making this Cobra a real weapon in traffic and there's a nicely finished trunk out back.
The heart of any Cobra is the engine, and the 289 cubic inch small block in this Guardsman Blue specimen doesn't disappoint. Mild enough to be a daily-driver, it features an Edelbrock carburetor on an aluminum intake, a modest cam, and that unmistakable sound. Finned valve covers and a matching air cleaner give it a purposeful look and really dress up the engine bay, and the sturdy 289 looks surprisingly appropriate in there. The automatic transmission is quick enough to eliminate your worries about it being a handicap and with highway-friendly gears out back, it's a reasonable cruiser. The fully independent suspension is part of the Backdraft package, not recycled from a donor car with an unknown number of miles on it, and the brakes are discs at all four corners. Wheels are a modern twist on traditional Halibrand alloys wearing 235/44/17 front and 315/35/17 rear performance radials.
So if you're the impatient type, or just plain smart enough to realize that it's always cheaper to buy someone else's finished car, here's your Cobra, ready to rock. Call today!
