1962 Porsche 356

1962 Porsche 356 Outlaw as featured in December 2008 Excellence magazine.

Built by a husband and wife team in California. Little rust repair was needed and body work included modifying the hood for the center fill gas tank, filling the stock fuel door location and french cutting the exhaust cut outs. Paint is from Acura color charts, Laguna Green with Silver Metallic stripes, a clear bra protects the nose from stone chips.

Custom bumperettes were fabricated in the front to hold Marchal fog lights. New glass was used except for the windshield and all chrome was replated.

A 912 motor bored to 1720 with big bore 86-mm Biral pistons and cylinders mated to original crank and rods were used. 280-degree cams offer performance without sacrificing drivability. The carburetors were replaced with 40mm Webers.

There is a front mounted oil cooler for additional cooling which can be confirmed via the hidden gauges in the glove box. The transmission uses BBBC gears in a four-speed gearbox with 12-pound flywheel and 200-mm heavy-duty clutch.

Suspension was rebuilt using Bilstein shocks and polyurethane bushings with 17.5-mm front anti roll bar. Wheels are rare American Racing Mag wheels. The Brake system was upgraded to 964 calipers with larger rotors. A dual circuit master cylinder from a 930 was used to upgrade the hydraulics.

Interior updates include new carpet, Nürburgring seats, alloy pedals and rebuilt gauges. New headliner and dashboard are complemented by Autopower rollbar.

Since the current owner has had the car the electrical system was rebuilt at a cost of more than 10K dollars.
