1986 Porsche 928 "S"

You're viewing my beautiful 1986 Porsche 928S. This year model has the 5.0 liter, 4 cam, 32 valve motor pushing out just under 300hp with similar torque. It's a great GT cruiser, and very comfortable. I recently drove my newly acquired 1985 Euro 928S (see last 2 pics) almost 1,000 miles in one day and was very comfortable the whole trip. These cars are identical inside, and they are great cruising GT cars with very comfortable seating. I'm a big guy and that is always a concern of mine with sports cars. My acquisition of the rare Euro 928S 5 speed is why I'm selling this car. In fact I just transferred my tag yesterday. My wife said I can't keep both, so this one must go.
This car is a real eye catcher in its Guards Red over black leather color scheme. The paint shows well with lots of shine and depth. It looks just as good in person as it does in these pics. There is no rust on the car. There is a small scratch under the passenger rear side marker (touched up in a slightly darker red, easy fix if it bothers you but it doesn't really stand out). The leather interior is really nice and is very well preserved. The "iconic" rectangular seat cushion sections are in fantastic shape (most are either crushed or stitching is blown out and they look like balloons). I don't believe it's ever been smoked in. Both front and rear seats look and feel really good/supple.
The dash has a few hairline cracks that have been professionally filled/repaired. They're much better than they were, but still "slightly" visible. I chose not to go with a plastic cap, but that's always an option. It looks pretty good. Door panels are really nice, as are the rear inner trunk quarters (usually get very warped from the sun). Mats and carpets are nice. All vents are in good shape with no broken or missing tabs. This has been a garage kept car with minimal rear carpet fading. Radio has been replaced with a newer head unit. AC blows ice cold! Both windows go up and down with ease. Horn works, wipers work, all gauges work, power mirrors work, power seats work, cruise works. Sunroof and rear wiper switches need replaced but I believe they both should still operate otherwise. Headlights function perfectly both up and down. Brakes are excellent (antilock light is on but they work perfectly), tires are brand new. Rims are chrome and look excellent.
The car runs and drives well. There are no immediate major needs that I'm aware of. The car is after all 32 years old and unrestored. It has been taken care of over the years, but there may be little things/leaks that might need addressed over time as any classic car will. For example, you have to lift a little harder on the driver's door exterior latch to open (even though still fully functional), but I'm providing a new handle that you can install at your leisure. Tinkering is half the fun with these classics. It did however undergo recent service. The timing belt was inspected and tension adjusted. In addition it had an oil/filter change, fluid flush, AC recharge, and alignment. The odometer reads a little over 94k and recently stopped working. Estimation is about 96-98k. Due to the age of the car it's sold "mileage exempt" anyway. Tools are present. Jack, pump and owners manual are not. Rear hatch opens with key.
This is a great looking car that someone can get into and not break the bank. 928's are on the rise, and clean ones are increasingly harder to find. Using Hagerty's Valuation Tool, I'd call this car a solid #3 (Good) with a Market Value around $18,200, maybe higher. It's 32 years old and unrestored so I can't rate it a #2 (Excellent), but it's very pretty, and gets TONS of compliments! Upon close inspection you may notice a few very minor imperfections as with any car of this age that has been driven, but nothing that detracts from its true beauty. It really is very nice inside and out. It is not a "concourse show car", but it presents itself very well and I wouldn't hesitate to enter it in a local show! It's perfect for a Sunday cruise or out to a relaxing dinner with the wife on a Friday night.
I'm asking $17,500 but will entertain reasonable offers. I'm in no rush to sell and won't give it away. Most 928's of this era were rode hard and put away wet. This is a pretty nice example. I am an avid Porsche collector and restorer of old air cooled models and have quite a few. Until recently purchasing my '85 Euro 5 speed car, my intentions were to enjoy this one for a long while. She's a looker and I'm sure it will make the new owner happy for years to come. As with any older used car, all sales are final with no warranties expressed or implied. Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding. If you'd like to come inspect the car, please do so during the auction and BEFORE committing to buy. I travel quite a bit so arrangements need to be made well in advance.
I require a $500 PayPal deposit upon acceptance of price, and remaining balance is to be bank wired within 3 business days after the winning bid. No exceptions. Please do not bid if you do not have your finances in order, and have permission from your wife, girlfriend, priest, Rabbi, prison Warden or any other significant decision maker BEFORE bidding. Zero feedback bidders MUST contact me PRIOR to bidding or your bid will be cancelled and you will be blocked. This is not a game, and costs money as well as time to list.
I will gladly sell to overseas buyers. Shipping cost is the responsibility of the buyer, and I am happy to keep the car safely in my garage until the car can be picked up in a reasonable time. Again, car must be fully paid for within 3 business days after winning.
Thanks for looking and happy bidding.
