1983 Porsche 944
· 1983 Porsche 944
· Very Rare Clean and Great driver
A front-engined, rear-wheel drive mid-level model, just 5490 produced for the US for the first year of US introduction. The 944 also featured a 2.5-litre in-line four-cylinder engine developed by Porsche. The 944 was therefore viewed as a "true" Porsche in the eyes of customers. This transaxle model was also produced by Audi in Neckarsulm.
- Odometer reading - 65,000 miles
- Odometer stopped working last summer, I have not been through a full tank of gas since.
- Original engine (Porsche does not have matching numbers)
- Much maintenance complete including upper end gaskets and timing belt/tensioner
- Fuel Injected
- 5-speed transmission
- Mostly unrestored with some minor repaint in the original color
- Very clean and glossy paint
- Original interior and undercarriage
Tired of looking for a classic Porsche and only finding various 911s? Here is your answer! – This 1983 Porsche 944. Designed to replace the 924, the 944 was slightly faster, better equipped and more refined than the 924; it had better handling, stopping power and was more comfortable to drive. The car had nearly even front-to-rear weight distribution (50.7% F/49.3% R) thanks to the rear transaxle balancing out the engine in the front.
Dressed in Red on the outside, the car's finish is in very good condition, with overall minor blemishes on the fenders and doors visible upon close inspection. Its glass panes are clear. The compound curved hatchback glass contains an electric defroster. The car's body panels are straight and solid, the engine bay is tidy and the bumpers are in very good condition.
For the 944, Porsche re-worked the platform and added a new all-alloy 2.5 L inline-four engine that was, in essence, half of the 928's 5.0L V-8, although very few parts were actually interchangeable. Atypical in luxury sports cars, the four-cylinder engine was chosen for fuel efficiency and size, because it had to be fitted from below on the Neckarsulm, West Germany production line.
Inside, the Black bucket seats are in great shape and the matching carpet is in good condition. The black headliner is in similar good order, the two-tone instrument panel, black upper and tan lower is also in good order. The factory four-spoke steering wheel is present and in good shape. The door panels, mirrors, center console and shift lever are all in a similar state to the carpet and headliner. The cargo bay is in very good order except for the worn carpet at the clutch pedal. Tons of maintenance, gaskets and belts already performed.
The wheels are original with minor scratches and corrosion. While the tires have good tread and do not appear dry rotted, they are mismatched.
The car has factory A/C and has not worked this summer, although it did work last year when put into storage.
Please do not bid on this car if you do not intend to buy it! Please contact me to look at it before bidding. If you win the bid you will be expected to purchase the car, even if you buy it “sight unseenâ€. The car is in as-is where-is condition and you will need to arrange to move it. Please ask me any questions FIRST. I will consider trades, let me know what you have, but cash is y priority since I have lost my storage. Look at my other cars as I have to sell some due to the storage problem. Thanks and have fun bidding!
