The late 964 Turbo, often referred to as the “3.6 Turbo,” quickly became an iconic and collectible example. This was the last and most powerful of the air-cooled single turbo variants. With 360hp and 383 lb. ft. of torque, it reached 60 mph in a scant 4.0 seconds. The media marveled at its performance capabilities. However, only a mere 466 examples made it to North America. Furthermore, finding a nice original example that has not been significantly modified over the years has become increasingly difficult.

This Porsche was built on April 2nd, 1993 and sold new on August 10th, 1993 by Jim Ellis Porsche of Atlanta, Georgia. It was ordered with the following factory options:

US Standard Emissions

Electric Sliding Sunroof

Model Designation

Supple Leather Seats

18” Polished Wheels

Heated Seat – Left

Yokohama Tires

The first owner kept the car for over 11-years/53k-miles. During his ownership, most services were performed at the selling dealership. There are stamps in the maintenance book (see pic) as well as some receipts. Besides normal routine services, this owner also had the following performed at the dealer:

Transmission and limited slip service/fluid flush

Replaced clutch slave cylinder

Service sunroof

Minor/Major services at 10k, 15k, 20k, and 30k miles

The current owner’s wife purchased this Turbo 3.6 as a Christmas gift to her husband in December of 2005. Besides being incredibly lucky, he is also a longtime Porsche enthusiast who has had many different models throughout the years. He has kept this one longer than any other. He enjoys tinkering on his cars at home with his kids and has a well-equipped garage with lifts and tools. Many of the routine services were either performed him or at the local Porsche dealer. Highlights of the work he has done over the past 13-years/14k-miles include:

Engine/Trans out reseal (3k-miles ago)

Clutch kit at same time as engine reseal (orig. clutch included and in good shape)

CV boots replaced

Bilstein suspension system with H&R springs (original factory parts included – see pic)

Refinished brake calipers

Regular brake fluid flushes and oil services

Replaced brake pads, rotors, and sensors

Air filter, fuel filter, and drive belts replaced (@63k-miles)

Dealer valve adjustment, inspect rockers, inspect engine (@64k-miles)

Warm up regulator (11/16)

This Turbo is in excellent condition and looks great. The paint has a nice luster and shows minimal signs of use. Some of the panels wear their original paint and some have had repaint due to rock chips. There are no signs of misuse or damage. The glass is all original, including the windshield, which has a small chip towards the top. It has been professionally repaired (see pic). The underside of the front plastic spoiler lip has some very light scratches. They are not easily seen unless you are laying on the ground. The factory original Speedline wheels are in great shape with no major curb rashes or other issues. They wear their correct factory stampings on their backside (see pics). The tires are older and although they have no cracks, they will need to be replaced soon. The brake pads and rotors are near new. The rear tail center reflector lens has a superficial crack (see pic) that is very light and hardly noticeable. All the exterior lights work properly.

The chassis looks fantastic and is all original. There are no scrapes or other signs of abuse. The engine is dry with no signs of oil leaks. The transmission is wearing its original vin decal (see pic). The engine bay is equally as tidy and original. There are no signs of modifications. Everything looks very correct. The original sound pad is starting to sag slightly.

The interior looks just as original and nice as the rest of the car. The original supple leather seats show minimal signs of wear with no cracks or tears. The carpet, door panels, and headliner are in excellent condition with no issues. The dash is perfect with no cracks or warping either. The rear parcel shelf vinyl is starting to shrink and pull from the rear window (see pic). All the gauges, buttons, and controls work properly. The A/C blows cold. All the electric windows, mirrors, and sunroof work properly. The radio does not work as it is not connected. We also have an extra original radio included (see pic).

As the values of these special Porsches grew, unfortunately, many owners simply moth-balled theirs in the name of preservation. Unfortunately, they may have preserved their pristine cosmetic condition, but mechanically, they began a downward slide. These Turbos need to be driven and regularly serviced. This example is just that and with one drive, it quickly becomes apparent. It starts easily with the first try and holds an even idle. There is no excessive smoking at startup. The power is strong as you would expect with no hesitation. The gearbox shifts smoothly with no slipping or grinding. The brakes have excellent initial bite with no fading or pulling. Steering is crisp and responsive. A set of fresh tires would further enhance the ride and handling. Other than that, this Turbo is ready to be enjoyed.

This Porsche just passed California’s strict smog/emissions test.

It comes with an extra key, the original tool kit, owner’s manuals, radio manual, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original spare wheel/tire, air compressor, service books, original magazine reviews, and various spare parts (see pics). The B&B exhaust is available for an additional fee.
